PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
- Teach adult English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to refugee students from a variety of backgrounds (approx. 20 hours of classroom instruction per week).
- Support For the Nations (FTN) ESL Department by: planning ESL lessons; grading student work; brainstorming and implementing assessment materials and practices for incoming and current students; helping develop curriculum and teaching materials.
- Serve in a missional capacity by developing personal relationships with students and visiting them and their families (especially when in need).
- Help further the mission of For the Nations (with a focus on adult education): To serve refugee families by providing education and acculturation services that meet both short and longterm needs and to share with them the gospel of Jesus Christ
OTHER POSSIBLE FUNCTIONS
- Help with afterschool tutoring programs for children
- Teach reading and other educational classes for children during the summer
- Provide transportation services to refugee families
- Assist families personally and in connection with our Family Services Department
- Support other FTN programs as needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Committed Christian
- Willing to raise individual support for annual salary*
- Passion for helping people
- Bachelors degree
- Management and teaching experience
- Excellent intercultural and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Flexible selfmotivated
- Good at working in teams & independently and at delegating tasks to volunteers
OTHER PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A background in TESL/TESOL
- Strong administrative computer and organizational skills
- Experience in working with nonprofits and/or ministries
- Experience working with diverse and/or international communities
