GAI Consultants Inc. is seeking an entrylevel Survey Technician to work with the Florida Transportation Market Sector within our Transportation Business Unit. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a teamoriented environment that will support professional growth and development.
Essential Duties:
- Assists surveyors and other mapmakers in obtaining and computing data relevant to measuring land surfaces.
- Obtains land survey data such as angles elevations points and contours using electronic distance measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.
- Places and recovers markings stakes and other such signifiers at work locations.
- Compiles notes sketches and records of survey data obtained and work performed.
- Performs work under direct supervision.
- Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higherlevel staff.
- Possesses beginning to working knowledge of the subject matter.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills.
- Documenting/recording skills
- Computer skills
- Physical requirements of this position include outdoor work standing and walking on uneven terrain in various temperatures and weather conditions. Exposure to outdoor elements and insects.
General Characteristics
- Intermediate skills; learns basic computer skills good visual and hearing skills follows procedures; good organizational skills; working in weather conditions (extreme heat cold etc.; works with safety in mind must be flexible with work hours and willingness to travel up to 100 during the week days and occasional weekend travel and/or work able to do physically demanding work; ability to lift and carry between 25 and 50 lbs. routinely; ability to walk for lengthy periods; wear shirt long pants and boots as a minimum while on the job

Technical Responsibilities
- Must know survey nomenclature should understand how to download or transfer files from the data collector able to operate total stations data collector etc.; intermediate GPS/Survey skills; ability to set up tripods levels solid understanding of equipment usage including calibration and care of delicate and expensive equipment; must have a steady hand and allow for proper measurements required for survey technical work; must be able to occasionally work at heights in certain environmental conditions wade through water; ride in a boat; swimming skills (Preferred); ability tosafely use hand tools etc
Management Responsibility
- At this level this individual can operate as an experienced instrument person requiring minimal supervision. This role also serves as a junior survey crew chief runs crews when necessary trains to become a party chief.
- Can work independently or lead crews when necessary
Communication Skills
- Possess intermediate oral and written communication skills; interacts well with other staff able to motivate others ability to function positively in a team environment
