Were looking for fulltime Crisis Workers to join our Crisis Services team! As a Crisis Worker on our integrated health team youll be empowered to make a bigger impact than you ever imagined. From triaging calls over the crisis line to being mobile out in the community youll perform a variety of important tasks that make each day new and exciting.

Status: FullTime Permanent 12 hours shifts on a rotational schedule. Note this posting is for an active vacancy.

Base Salary: $75278.74 $87411.79 annually (Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting salary)

Location: 60 West Drive Brampton. Due to the nature of the program this role is onsite and community based.


What you will do

  • Provide immediate crisis line response initial triage crisis stabilizationand development of intervention plans
  • Provide needed assistance and followup post crisis with telephone checkins mobile crisis response or by connecting clients to appropriate followup agencies/networks
  • Conduct risk and safety assessments mental status examinations promote healthy coping strategies and assist in developing followup and safety plans for clients in the community
  • Work side by side in ride alongs with police officers and other crisis support workers in completing mobile crisis intervention assessments
  • Form collaborative relationships with CMHA colleaguesand strong partnerships with hospitals law enforcement agencies and mental health and social service agencies to build an effective delivery of crisis service in the community
  • Assist in identifying and developing goals towards understanding prevention treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with mental illness and addiction concerns
  • Participate in agency and community meetings committees and workgroups as requested by manager

What you need to join our team

  • University Degree in Social Work BSc. Nursing Occupational Therapy or Masters degree in Counselling
  • Must be a Regulated Health Professional (Registered Nurse Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Occupational Therapist) or Registered Social Worker and adhere to standards of practice as per designated college OR eligible and willing to become regulated health professional or RSW within first 6 months of employment
  • Minimum 3years of experience working in acute mental health sector preferably in the community
  • Ability to work 12hour shifts on a rotational schedule: days overnights weekends and public holidays
  • Experience with crisis intervention techniques and theorybased practice in working with the seriously mentally ill including a good understanding of the Mental Health Act and DSM V as it relates to crisis
  • Knowledge on risk assessments suicide prevention and principles of crisis theory and intervention
  • Experience intervening effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour
  • Comfortable workingon the phone and in person in potentially high risk and stressful situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach listen build trust and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity such as gender identity/expression race/cultural background religion sexual orientation disability immigration and precarious status family status etc.
  • Openness to operate from an antiracist antioppressive 2SLGBTQ affirming and intersectional framework
    • Fluency in a second language including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset
    • Valid Canadian drivers license and access to an insured automobile in good repair
    • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report and provide fingerprints to Peel Regional Police


    The 24.7 Crisis Support Program is also looking to create a pool of Crisis Workers to serve the Caledon and Dufferin communities. Interested applicants will be required to complete a more comprehensive Level 4 police security clearance with the Caledon OPP. This includes (but is not limited to) fingerprinting criminal records check social networking search Out of Country and Canadian border searches a credit check and gathering basic information about any individual you reside with over the age of 16.
