Job Description
BronxWorks helps individuals and families improve their economic and social wellbeing. From toddlers to seniors we feed shelter teach and support our neighbors to build a stronger community. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Help participants to navigate digital technologies and troubleshoot when challenges arise.
- Work with each participant to identify interests and strengths.
- Work with each participant to develop an Individual Service Plan (ISP).
- Help participants develop skills to improve study habits social skills and time management.
- Interact with participants on an ongoing basis be able to demonstrate positive impacts of counseling on attendance retention and academic achievement addressing participants needs and documenting each interaction with a participant in DYCDs Participant Tracking System (PTS).
- Help participants to develop skills to improve study habits social skills and time management.
- Visit different job sites.
- Enter case notes and student information into PTS.
- Help participants to apply for benefits if needed.
- Provide resources needed with specific action steps taken to assist with any necessary referrals if needed.
- It is anticipated that counseling will be an integral part of literacy programming and will have a positive impact on participants academic social emotional and personal development.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- The counselor is expected to have a bachelors degree in social work or a related field and experience working with City systems such as public assistance child welfare education and housing or an Associate degree in human services (or currently enrolled in college) plus 3 years of relevant experience.
- Bilingual English/Spanish English/French/ and other languages preferred.
- Engaging personality and detailed orientated skills are essential.
- Strong oral and written communication time management and organizational skills are necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Ability to stand walk or sit for long periods of time
- Ability to climb five flights of stairs if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents
- Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation
- Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather including inclement weather if required to conduct home visits and/or field work
- TB Test required with the first 120 days of employmentfor Shelters and Homeless Outreach programs
