Duties And Responsibilities
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. Perform track and field and crosscountry coaching assignments including but not limited to supervision of athletes organization of practices hiring assistant coaches scheduling of meets creating managing and implementing yearround strength and conditioning program coordination of recruitment and retention of studentathletes Represent College of San Mateo by attending CCCAA Sport Coaches Association and conference meetings Comply with California Community College Athletic Association CCCAA Rules and Regulations Conduct oversight of the track and field and crosscountry program budgets Provide leadership to the overall organization and direction of the track and field and crosscountry program Teach a variety of kinesiology activity and lecture courses including possibly teaching Dual Enrollment classes at a local high school Direct public relations and fundraising activities in support of the track and field and crosscountry programs and the athletic program in general Monitor the academic progress of studentathletes and serve as liaison to the Financial Aid office Develop new curriculum and serve on division college District and league or conference committees Participate in professional development activities Establish liaisons with San Mateo County and contiguous district high school coaches media businesses and boosters Serve the track and field and crosscountry programs and the athletic department in various support roles such as coordination of athletic tutoring and fundraising Establish and maintain linkages with other college departments to assist in the coordination of each students academic program and with fouryear institutions to assist studentathlete transfer Perform other duties as required by contract collective bargaining agreement and general institutional needs Recruit train and oversee a staff of assistant track and field and crosscountry coaches The college offers day evening online and weekend classes and faculty may be required to teach during any of these.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree or above in kinesiology physical education exercise science education with an emphasis in physical education kinesiology physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education OR Bachelors degree in any of the above AND Masters degree or above in any life science dance physiology health education recreation administration or physical therapy OR the equivalent Demonstrated cultural competence sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability gender identity sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students faculty and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity mindedpractice both within and outside of the classroom Possession of a valid California Drivers License (or ability to obtain one)
Preferred Qualifications
Recent experience working with racially minoritized and other disproportionatelyimpacted students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education and particular fields shape patterns of participation and outcomes Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional relational and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized and other disproportionately impacted students Experience and skill with addressing inequity in the classroom and on campus Experience and expertise in culturallyresponsive teaching in kinesiology Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within kinesiology courses and classrooms Demonstrated knowledge of the implications of the HispanicServing Institution designation for institutional departmental and instructional practices
