Job Description

Job Overview:

Hemphill County Hospital District is seeking a reliable and skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform essential maintenance and repair tasks across our hospital facilities. This position will focus on ensuring the proper functioning of our plumbing electrical systems HVAC and other building systems to support hospital operations. The ideal candidate will be proactive detailoriented and able to respond quickly to emergency maintenance needs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on hospital facilities including sheetrock plumbing electrical systems HVAC and other building systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the facility to identify and address maintenance needs including replacing light bulbs repairing fixtures and ensuring safety equipment is operational.
  • Respond promptly to emergency repair requests prioritizing tasks to minimize disruption to hospital operations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on hospital systems and equipment as scheduled ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities including repairs inspections and preventive maintenance work performed.
  • Assist with setting up or moving equipment and furniture as required for events or departmental needs.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or projects ensuring work is completed to hospital standards.
  • Monitor the condition of facility grounds including landscaping and address any issues as needed.
  • Follow all safety protocols and infection control standards to ensure the safety of hospital staff patients and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with local state and federal regulations regarding building codes safety and environmental standards.
  • Availability for oncall duties is required for one week out of each month on a rotating schedule.
  • Respond to afterhours emergency calls when necessary.

Other Significant Requirements:

  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation to and from the work site.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Document work processes as required by HCHD policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.


Job Requirements:

Education:
Minimum: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred: Relevant certifications or training in building systems maintenance.

Work Experience:
Minimum: Previous experience in facilities maintenance building systems repair or a similar field preferably in a healthcare environment.
Preferred: Experience troubleshooting and repairing plumbing electrical and HVAC systems.

Licenses & Certifications:
Minimum: CPR certification (can be obtained upon hire).
Preferred: Knowledge of plumbing electrical HVAC systems and general building maintenance procedures.

Physical Demands:
Ability to lift and/or carry objects and move up to 50 lbs. with the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. or more as required.
Must be able to bend reach and stand for extended periods.
Ability to hear equipment alarms and read labels instructions and conduct tests.
Occasional evening weekend and holiday work required for emergency repairs or scheduled maintenance.
