Job Description
The Department of Atmospheric and Climate Science formerly Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington (UW) invites applications for a fulltime 9month 100 FTE) tenuretrack Assistant Professor faculty position. The proposed starting date of employment is September 16 2025.
We anticipate that the successful candidate will strengthen the Departments research and teaching portfolio in atmospheric dynamics including the study of weather and climate phenomena. The method of study can include using observations modeling and/or theory. Areas of emphasis include but are not limited to tropical meteorology dynamics of convective systems regional and globalscale climate variability extreme events or predictability on subseasonal to decadal time scales. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and support our mission through service to the Department. All UW faculty engage in teaching research and service.
Positive factors for consideration include but are notlimited to a productive research record with publications in top journals and presentations at conferences and workshops.The successful applicant will be expected to work collaboratively with faculty and teach and mentor students from a wide range of disciplines cultures economic means and academic backgrounds.
The initial appointment of an Assistant Professor is typically for a period of three years. Renewal for a second threeyear term will be considered by the department and school/college/campus in the spring quarter of the second year.
The base salary range for this position will be$9500 $14000 per month for an Assistant Professor commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.Other compensation associated with this position may include a moving allowance a relocation incentive and/or limited commitment of summer salary.
The Department of Atmospheric and Climate Science resides in the College of the Environment which fosters collaborations between the faculty staff and students engaged in the study of environmental sciences engineering and the human dimensions of environmental challenges. This position will offer opportunities for interaction with researchers in a wide range of disciplines including ecology biology geology glaciology hydrology oceanography global health economics and environmental policy.

- Ph.D or foreign equivalent in Atmospheric Sciences or a closely related field at the appointment start date is required.
