Job Description
The Hartt School a conservatory of Music Dance and Theatre at the University of Hartford invites applications for a fulltime tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Voice beginning August 2025. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience teaching tenor countertenor baritone bassbaritone and/or bass voice types. In addition to teaching applied voice the position offers opportunities to teach courses within the undergraduate and graduate curricula.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position is teaching private voice lessons at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Other potential courses to be taught could include any of the following: lyric diction vocal pedagogy vocal literature acting for singers and special topics seminars in oratorio song and/or contemporary techniques. Additionally a candidate may serve as a director for operatic scenes or productions. The successful candidate will be actively engaged in student recruitment and retention as well as curriculum development and assessment. Fulltime duties also include adjudicating auditions and juries advising students attending faculty meetings and serving on departmental school and university committees. The ideal candidate will be expected to remain active in performance pedagogical or other creative/scholarly pursuits seeking peer reviews as appropriateall as expected for the successful pursuit of tenure and promotion.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications A Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at the time of appointment. An active profile as an established professional vocalist with experience in opera oratorio and/or recital repertoire. A documented minimum of three 3 years successful teaching experience in the area of vocal performance in a college or university classroom collegiatelevel masterclass and/or professional festival/young artist program setting. Demonstrated collaborative organizational and communication skills. The commitment and ability to recruit new undergraduate and graduate students. Knowledge of and commitment to working with diverse student populations. Desired Qualifications Engagement in social justice equity and/or diversity issues. Ability to lead in social justice issues in educational settings. Ability to contribute to the cultural competence of the campus community. Professional activity associated with nationally and/or internationally recognized ensembles and organizations. Three 3 years successful teaching experience in the area of vocal performance as teacher of record in a college or university classroom. Experience teaching lyric diction vocal pedagogy vocal literature acting for singers and/or special topics seminars in oratorio song and/or contemporary techniques. Demonstrated experience teaching tenor countertenor baritone bassbaritone and/or bass voice types.
