Position Summary/Purpose:
Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)3 by virtue of their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)3 organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents needs.
GCU maintains a partnership with Rise Up! Glendale located at 7667 W Bethany Home Road Glendale AZ 85303. The mission of Rise Up! Glendale is to prevent youth substance use/abuse while providing life skills training. The CSLP student workers work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of Rise Up! Glendale; however CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e. fall/spring).
CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b) community services are defined as Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents particularly lowincome individuals or to solve particular problems related to their need. These services must be open and accessible to the community.
As an FWSCSLP approved position its services will be offered to nonGCU community members (i.e. local residents).
Note: All FWS and FWSCSLP positions require applicants to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid/h/applyforaid/fafsa to be reviewed for FWSeligibility and awarded FWS.
Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities/Essential Functions:
Teach/Lead substance awareness classes and life skills workshops for youth aged 10 17 and parents/caretakers
Host community event booths
Create/Post social media campaigns.
Plan and host youth & family events community service projects family fun nights etc.
Other duties as assigned such as participating in youth council meetings events and recruitment.

Qualifications:
Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
Possess strong ethics integrity and sense of responsibility.
Previous Mentoring a plus.
Ability to speak a second language a plus.
Must have reliable transportation.
Experience/Education:
Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:
Enrolled at GCU as a fulltime student in a bachelors program or masters program.
Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
