This position requires safe and effective monitoring of the children attending LCCAP Early Learning Programs during their transport between home and school. The highest level of service safety and confidentiality is expected which meets transportation program requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Ensures a safe environment for the children while riding the bus. * Updates the Emergency Contact Binders with new Emergency Contact Cards when provided by the Early Learning Office. Marks the outdated cards with an X and ensures the form is shredded. *At dropoff stops Monitors must perform a twostep process before releasing a child from the school bus. Check the adults photo identification to confirm their identity and name. Check the childs Emergency Contact Card to confirm that the persons name is listed. * Assists children while walking up and down the stairs of the bus. * Ensures children are safely seated and secure in the child restraint seats before the bus moves and that they remain seated while the bus is in motion. Immediately reports to the Transportation Office any child whose height or weight may exceed the manufacturers instructions regarding the capacity of the seats.
* Monitors are responsible for the children when they enter the bus door and until they exit the bus door. Parents are responsible for getting the child to the door and to be present at the door when the child exits the bus. In cases where the parent is disabled the monitor may walk the child to their parent. * Completes Incident Report Form to report safety issues to the Transportation Office. Completes Behavior Incident Reports (BIRs) when a child repeatedly disobeys the safety rules on the bus. Ensures that these forms are turned into the Health or Transportation Office in a timely manner. * During backing of the bus monitors be stationed in the interior rear of the bus to watch for people and/or objects in the way. * Both Monitors and Drivers are responsible for performing posttrip inspections after all children have exited the school bus to ensure a child was not left behind on the bus. These checks must be performed at the end of each route both morning and afternoon without exception. Must sign LCCAP Head Start Manifest Cover Sheet to certify that these checks have been performed. * In the event of an emergency the Monitor must take directions from the Driver. The Monitors main responsibility is to ensure that the children remain safe and calm. The Monitor will assist the children with exiting the bus and ensure that they are all accounted for and stationed a safe distance from the school bus. * No Monitor or Bus Driver is ever to take it upon his/herself to alter any stop. * Attend monthly safety meetings and other trainings as required by management. * Other duties as assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS: Bus Monitors are required to obtain FBI Fingerprinting Act 33 and 34 Clearances (Child Abuse and Criminal Record Check) a preemployment physical and tuberculosis test and maintain CPR/First Aid Certifications. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Graduate or GED.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules policies and procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Must be able to speak read and write the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS: Must obtain CPR/First Aid within newhire probationary period and maintain throughout employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: To successfully perform the essential functions of this position employees must be able to: Talk hear read see stand walk stoop and reach. Maneuver through narrow school bus aisleways while the bus is in motion. Sit/ride in vehicle for up to two 2 hours at a time. Frequent climbing of bus steps. Lift/carry up to 60 pounds.

This position requires travel within Lawrence County. The majority of the work shift will be spent on a vehicle during the provision of school bus transportation. During the performance of their duties employees may be exposed to a variety of weather conditions and will be expected to perform all duties regardless of weather. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
