POSITION SUMMARY: This experiencebased internship will give students handson skills in a variety of human resource disciplines related to recruiting onboarding training payroll benefits employment law and employee relations. The intern will assist in performing administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the organizations human resource department. The human resources internship is an unpaid position that may offer college credit based on your college or institutions requirements.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: - College student majoring in Human Resources or a related field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact professionalism and diplomacy.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn human resource information system (HRIS) and similar computer applications.
- Ability to work independently and to plan organize and handle multiple tasks as necessary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
- Assist with job fairs and interview potential applicants for seasonal positions.
- Assist with onboarding returning staff and new hires in the HRIS (Paycor).
- Conduct or assist with orientations for both returning staff and new hires.
- Answer frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies benefits hiring processes etc. and as delegated by the Director of Human Resources.
- Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures in accordance with mandated laws and regulations.
- Perform other human resource functions including but not limited to: surveys updating job descriptions employment forms and human resource manuals.
- Relate positively with diverse groups of people (guests staff and volunteers).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Complete special projects as requested by management staff.
- Assist with zoowide special events.
- Comply with all Binder Park Zoo policies and procedures.
- Participate in team oriented zoo projects as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: N/A
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: - Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to read speak and write English in order to fulfill job functions in an understandable way.
