The Department of Education Culture & Society ECS in the College of Education at the University of Utah invites applications for a fulltime Associate Professor position (tenure track) in Sociology of Education with emphasis in Critical Racial Analysis of Education in Postsecondary Institutions. ECS is a diverse multidisciplinary group of scholars committed to the study and pursuit of social justice in education using cuttingedge frameworks that address class race ethnicity culture language immigration status gender and sexuality in educational policy and practice. ECS offers Ph.D. . professional and undergraduate program specialties in curriculum theory cultural studies in education multilingual/multicultural education ESL / DLBE communityengaged pedagogy and the social foundations of education (anthropology sociology history and philosophy of education). The department also offers undergraduate courses as a part of our commitment to develop culturally and linguistically responsive socially just educators and communityengaged scholars. ECS is deeply committed to fostering collaboration across campus and across the states school districts communitybased organizations and policy networks to prepare educational professionals who are successful in diverse educational contexts; and to support distinction in teaching service and scholarship. Candidates should have a theorydriven program of research that addresses key questions in race inequality structural frameworks and underrepresented groups while also advancing highquality qualitative quantitative or mixedmethodologies. Prior experience working within interdisciplinary research teams and experience with communitybased research methods are desired. Required qualifications: An earned doctorate in Education Sociology of Education African American Studies or related field Demonstrated record of scholarly contributions that examine the sociological factors affecting higher education especially those related to race ethnicity and microaggressions commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor at the University of Utah Strong commitment to educational equity diversity and inclusion EDI Preferred Qualifications: Proven ability to secure research funding Experience in graduate and undergraduate teaching & advising including those from historically marginalized backgrounds Record of mentorship of junior scholars Record of communityengaged teaching research or service. Demonstrated leadership abilities Responsibilities: Conduct research that critically investigates the sociological aspects of higher education with a particular focus on racerelated challenges microaggressions and/or institutional barriers and publish scholarly works in highquality outlets Seek external funding related to work Teach four undergraduate and graduate courses a year in areas relevant to the sociology of higher education racial disparities microaggressions and core ECS courses in their area of expertise. Serve on graduate exam and dissertation committees Collaborate across departments to further interdisciplinary research initiatives. Foster community partnerships and communityengagement efforts Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students and junior scholars Engage in service to the department college and professional communities The College of Education strongly encourages and welcomes all applicants.
