Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Sr. Manager of Mechanical Engineering and Innovation the Senior Mechanical Engineer will take a lead role in the development deployment and of the Innovation process for strength and cardio fitness products. This role ensures smooth transition from R&D through to final prototyping and partners closely with the Innovation team and Product Manager to ensure that all product designs are optimized for prototyping quality and initial costing.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will also lead efforts in working with thirdparty manufacturers to refine part specifications and design iterations ensuring alignment with manufacturing capabilities during the prototyping phase. The role requires significant leadership in guiding crossfunctional teams including industrial design and NPD to transition technical design into production.
Responsibilities:
Lead the transition of products from the R&D phase to final prototype ensuring manufacturability quality and alignment with Asiabased manufacturing capabilities.
Work closely with Sr. Engineers to develop innovative technical designs that improve ergonomics performance and meet customer needs.
Take ownership of complex design challenges mentor junior engineers and lead efforts toward prototype readiness and overall product reliability and manufacturability.
Oversee creation and refinement of prototypes in partnership with the R&D and consumer insights teams.
Lead and present updates in project reviews and design reviews addressing prototype readiness and resolution of any issues.
Support the transition of projects from the innovation group over to the New Product Development group.
Conceptualize design develop test and refine mechanical components equipment.
Collaborate with global engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve design and production challenges.
Lead technical documentation and generate project requirements working crossfunctionally with industrial design and NPD teams to ensure designs meet marketing and production specifications.
Support and collaborate with the manufacturing team to ensure design and assembly techniques (DFMA) are followed throughout the prototyping phase and into production.
Education:
Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering Manufacturing or Science area of study or equivalent
Experience:
5 to 8 years in a Mechanical Design Engineering/Manufacturing Environment with a focus on product development.
Proven experience with consumer product design especially in the fitness or consumer goods space.
Strong background in New Product Development (NPD) processes and crossfunctional team collaboration.
Experience with 3D CAD and FEA (SolidWorks)
Handson experience with a variety of materials and manufacturing processes (plastics sheet metal machining casting etc..
Working knowledge of FMEA Risk Analysis and tolerance stack ups
Experience leading design for assembly (DFA) and design for manufacturing (DFM) techniques.
