INTRODUCTION:
The Water & Fish Biologist position is a fulltime 3year position located in Wellpinit and Spokane Washington and is responsible for supporting the Lake Roosevelt Sediment and Biota project and collecting and developing groundwater use data collection methods and managing WQ data and submissions to EPA Stored database. and aiding in the management of the Spokane Indian Reservations inland lakes and streams. Specific objectives are listed below.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead data collection efforts of sediment and other biota on Lake Roosevelt working with Fisheries consultants and cooperators such as USGS and USFWS
Develop a GIS based groundwater use layer for the Reservation locating and inputting data related to domestic and community wells.
Organize historic water quality and flow data and submit to EPA Store database
Develop and maintain flow rating curves for developing annual flow calculations on major Tribal streams
Provide stream and lake habitat management recommendations to the Water and Fish Program Manager and Project Manager.
Analyze data provide annual reports to the funding agency and willingness to provide oral presentations.
Participation with the Integrated Resource Management Plan (IRMP) Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) to review tribal project proposals on the reservation
Administrative and other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability and knowledge to safely operate and boats 4wheel drive trucks ATVs side by sides chainsaws various power tools.
Ability to communicate effectively using verbal nonverbal and written communication with diverse groups of stakeholders
Must have knowledge and experience in collecting organizing and interpreting field data for water quantity and quality
Must have knowledge and experience in collecting organizing and interpreting field data for sediment and biological sampling.
Knowledgeable of the identification and life cycle characteristics of riparian plants and fish on the Spokane Reservation
Ability to manage data using spreadsheets GIS databases and produce maps
Knowledge of sampling permits and reporting requirements
Ability to work independently or collaboratively to meet deadlines
The incumbent is expected to be punctual selfmotivated and exercise sound judgement (safetyoriented) in carrying out the responsibilities of this position
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
An associates degree and 1yr experience or B.S. Degree in Water Resources Fisheries Ecology Biology Natural Resource Science Environmental Science or closely related field.
Must possess a valid drivers license and be tribally insurable
Must be willing to work extended hours nights and weekends as needed. Regular schedule is Monday Thursdayhrs; subject to change if necessary.
Experience with operating motor boats and have or obtain Washington State Boat Operator License
Experience with Microsoft Office
Experience in Arc GIS
