About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. Were doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

Electrical Engineer New Product

Essential Duties:

You will be an early member of a new engineering team responsible for driving the electrical design development and integration of a new highpower electromechanical product line at Redwood. In this role you will be responsible for complex systems integration test engineering low voltage electronics and power electronics design challenges and ensuring successful project . You will collaborate closely with mechanical firmware and systems engineering teams.

The ideal candidate is highly selfdriven adaptable to a startup environment and eager to take on both technical and leadership challenges. Youre a leader and a doer excited about working in a dynamic fastpaced setting and want to shape the electrical engineering function within a new department at Redwood.

If necessary we will adjust the job level to suit your experience and responsibilities.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Design and develop electrical systems for battery processing recycling and nextgeneration renewable energy applications.
  • Develop schematics and PCB layouts for battery management systems power electronics and control circuits.
  • Integrate sensors power systems and communication interfaces into battery modules and recycling equipment.
  • Perform electrical testing and validation including power cycling fault analysis and performance characterization.
  • Collaborate with mechanical software and process engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
  • Support highvoltage system design including insulation coordination safety features and compliance with industry standards.
  • Analyze and mitigate electrical risks including thermal management EMI/EMC compliance and failure modes.
  • Develop and maintain documentation including schematics wiring diagrams and test reports.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing teams to optimize electrical components for cost performance and reliability.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or masters degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in electrical design PCB layout and system integration preferably in battery technology power electronics or renewable energy.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics BMS design and highvoltage systems 400V).
  • Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g. Altium OrCAD KiCad).
  • Experience with embedded systems firmware development and communication protocols (CAN I2C SPI Modbus) is a plus.
  • Handson experience with electrical testing debugging and troubleshooting using oscilloscopes multimeters and power analyzers.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards and compliance (UL IEC ISO).
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced crossfunctional team environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA FMLA and other federal state and local standards including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular punctual attendance consistent with the ADA FMLA and other federal state and local standards

Working Conditions:

  • Environment such as office or outdoors.
  • Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise dust chemicals and temperature extremes while protected by PPE for extended periods of time.
  • Essential physical requirements such as climbing standing stooping or typing.
  • Occasional work weekends nights or be oncall as a regular part of the job.
  • Occasional travel requirements.

The position is fulltime. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
