The classification specification does not describe all duties performed by all incumbents within the class. This summary provides examples of typical tasks routinely performed in this classification.

Knowledge of:
Proper methods materials tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
Applicable plumbing codes and regulations including the Uniform Plumbing Code.
Shop math applicable to the plumbing trade.
Record keeping techniques.
Lead abatement.
Confined spaces.
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
Ability to:
Perform skilled plumbing work.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Work from diagrams blueprints plans and specifications.
Plan and lay out plumbing work including estimating labor and material for the task assigned.
Perform shop mathematics.
Diagnose malfunctions and determine repair needs.
Maintain service and repair records.
Use the tools equipment and materials in the plumbing trade with skill including power tools such as power drain cleaning machines.
Maintain tools and equipment used and assigned in clean working order providing proper security.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
Education and Training:
Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by completion of a recognized fouryear plumbing apprenticeship program or possession of a valid journeylevel plumbing certificate or license issued from an authorized agency.
OR
Experience:
Four years of journeylevel experience in plumbing installation alterations and repair work.
Any other combination of training and/or experience which demonstrates that the applicant possesses the required skills knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Valid Class C drivers license.
An applicant for this class will be required to obtain at his/her own expense and submit his/her motor vehicle driving record at the time of appointment. The record must meet and be maintained at the districts safe driving record standards. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the disqualification and/or rejection of the eligible regardless of any other standing.
A Backflow Testers License Issued by the Los Angeles County Health Department must be obtained by completion of the probationary period.
A Certificate issued by P.I.P.E. and a Los Angeles County Certificate showing acceptance by the State Fire Marshal in Fire Suppression Systems are desired.
Incumbents are subject to pertinent provisions of the General Industry Safety Orders of the California Code of Regulations regarding protective equipment when exposed to hazardous materials including but not limited to asbestos and lead. Incumbents in this class are required to wear protective clothing gear and equipment as required by law and provided by the District.
