JV Clark School is a small rural school with approximately 60 students which means class sizes are smaller than would be expected in urban schools. This allows teachers to develop strong relationships with students and families. The school community strives to inculcate handson experiences with the BC curriculum. This year and in previous years the school welcomed experts in the following activities: drum making cedar paddle carving rabbit snaring canoeing herbal medicines traditional foods basket weaving fiddle guitar ukelele dog mushing moose hair tufting beading felting soap making to name just a few! JV Clark School is a happy school with strong comradery amongst staff and strong connection to the local community of 500 people. The school principal values the importance of meaningful professional development for staff and has a high regard for extracurricular activities including participation in athletic tournaments in Whitehorse. This year alone JV Clark has sent and is planning on sending student contingents to ten tournaments in Whitehorse.

Mayo is situated alongside the confluences of the Mayo and Stewart Rivers. It is a beautiful place surrounded by evergreen and birch forests affording outdoor enthusiasts plenty to do including canoeing flatwater and river hiking fishing hunting bird watching skiing snowmobiling motocross just to name a few things to do here! Aside from the 500 or so humans that reside here there are also frequent sightings of bears deer and moose. Beavers are at work in the Mayo River chopping down tress for their lodges and woodpeckers are often heard tapping away on distant trees. At night walkers will hear the distant hooting of owls as well. The air is fresh and nature is alive and well in Mayo and the surrounding environs.

The Village of Mayo and the First Nation of Na Cho Nyak Dun are active participants in the community and there is no shortage of activities happening on a weekly basis including painting classes yoga classes daily exercise classes free ice skating in winter adult hockey and plenty of festivals occurring throughout the year. For those with dogs Mayo is a very dogfriendly location with many landlords accepting tenants with wellbehaved dogs. Mayo is a great place to live and work. It is quiet peaceful and tranquil place and only a 4hour drive for a weekend getaway to Whitehorse or 2 hours to the historical delight that is Dawson City.
