The summer naturalist role focuses on educational programs centered around natural history and outdoor recreation for campers ages 3 years old to 13 years old.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design implement and instruct environmental education programs including outdoor recreation and interpretation of cultural and natural history for participants between ages 313 in Tamarack Nature Centers summer day camp program. Summer naturalists will work in a team setting with assistant naturalists and youth volunteers. Activities will include daily contact with guardians and supervision of small and large group activities. 7585 of time is spent outdoors which may include canoeing and hiking. Participation in training and orientation week is required. Perform related duties as assigned.
Season and Time Commitment
Available to work scheduled weekdays from June 13th August 15th.
Work hours can vary. Mainly MTh from 8am5pm and F from 8am4pm.
4045hrs/week.
Off on June 19th in observance of Juneteenth.
Off on July 4th in observance of Independence Day.
Required Dates
Training: June 13th 17th 18th & 20th from 8:00am4:00pm.
Safety Training: June 16th from 8:00am4:30pm (if you need First Aid/CPR certification) or 8:00am12:00pm (if you already have First Aid/CPR certification).
JAN BBQ: Thursday August 7th from 4:007:30pm.
Wrap Up Day: Friday August 15th 8:00am4:00pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1 2 3 4 5 6.
Education: Two years of postsecondary education concentrating in Biology Ecology Environmental Science Science Education or a closely related field.
Experience: One year 2080 hours) of experience developing or conducting environmental education and interpretive programs for the general public schools and/or youth groups working with schoolage children or performing other similar duties.
Substitutions: Equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Other: Must be 18 years of age or older.
Preferred:
Bachelors Degree in Biology Ecology Environmental Science Science Education or a closely related field.
Ability to teach with amphibians and reptiles.
