Job Description

Introduction

The Maryland Department ofCommerce is seeking qualified applicants for a fulltime Travel InformationAide Supervisor position within the Office of Tourism Development. Thisposition is located at the Sideling Hill Welcome Center. This position will work hours per week Thursday through Monday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.


This is a Special Appointment position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is located atthe Sideling Hill Welcome Center at 3000 Sideling Hill Mile Marker 74 HancockMaryland 21750 in Washington County.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary function of this position is to supervise Travel Information Aides who provide travel information to Maryland visitors and to oversee the daily operations and maintenance of the welcome center.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties include assistingtravelers with tourism information directions hotel accommodationsitineraries and emergency situations; supervising the dissemination ofinformation to the traveling public: training providing reports and settingup familiarization tours; keeping records of tours filing schedules andordering literature and support with tourism development unit projects. Thesupervisor will also attend hospitality and training sessions supervisorsmeetings and travel around Maryland on familiarization tours in order to keepinformed about Maryland attractions accommodations recreational facilitiesservices and destinations; manage stakeholder outreach projects as assigned; support maximizing opportunities and leveraging partnership goals for various tourism initiatives. Some state travel.

Candidates should beable to relate to the public in a friendly and competent manner; and must beable to interpret highway maps. Applicants must be able to work the designatedschedule. Knowledge of Maryland history geography and tourist attractions isrequired. Candidates must be computer literate and also be able to frequentlylift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to work Thursday through Monday yearround from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicantsmust possess:

Education: A high school diploma or a State GED certificate

AND

Experience: Three 3)three years of experience working in public information in a tourismrelatedindustry (e.g. accommodations campgrounds travel development agencyinformation center guide service customer service hospitality etc..

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

SelectiveQualification (required): One 1 year of experience involving management of aprogram and/orsupervisingstaff.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Applicants must be willing to accept employment in Hancock Maryland wich is approximately 103 miles 1 hour and 48 minutes) from the Baltimore Metro Area.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates may beassigned duties which require the operation of an automobile in such instancesthe employee will be required to possess a valid and appropriate operatorslicense.
