Responsibilities

In this position...

Engineering complex electrified propulsion systems in todays competitive market requires sophisticated modelbased development methodologies that can help deliver optimized products quickly and efficiently. There is a critical need to explore and identify high leverage system opportunities for improving customer experience and value of our electrified vehicle products.

Task:

  • Development of propulsion thermal and climate system technologies aligned with strategic technology roadmaps for Fords conventional and electrified propulsion architectures
  • Perform vehicle level analysis covering energy & thermal management drivability emissions and passenger comfort attributes across various vehicle propulsion architectures
  • Develop tests analyses and verification methods to assess and ensure the virtual vehicles exhibit the intended functional behaviors across a full spectrum of vehicle operating conditions
  • Perform largescale optimization on HPC/cloud environments to balance system attributes over regulatory and realworld customer cycles
  • Perform largescale simulations of customer trips (connected vehicle data) and develop intuitive dashboards for quick insights into customer experience of Ford products
  • Develop own and maintain a repository of simulation results across various vehicle architectures to support strategic roadmap development of future products
  • Support development of physicsbased plant models of vehicle components and as relevant to the vehicle attributes of interest
  • Perform competitive landscape analysis and maintain knowledge of emerging simulation technologies influencing different areas of modelbased development as relevant

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in mechanical automotive or electrical engineering
  • 3 years of experience with analyzing automotive electrified propulsion systems hardware and controls electric machines batteries thermal system combustion engines driveline and chassis systems
  • Working knowledge of vehiclelevel energy and power flows across battery electric and hybrid architectures
  • Working knowledge of thermal & hydraulic systems as applied to battery electric and hybrid architectures
  • Working knowledge of automotive climate systems and passenger comfort
  • 3 years of experience with Matlab / Simulink / Stateflow
  • 1 years of version control and automation (GitHub or similar)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking
  • Initiative resilience a strong work ethic and a desire for continuous learning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in mechanical automotive or electrical engineering
  • 5 years of experience analyzing electrified propulsion systems
  • 3 years of experience with physical system modeling using platforms such as GT Suite AmeSim or Modelica
  • Significant depth of knowledge in one or more of Propulsion Energy Management Thermal or Climate engineering domains.
  • Strong experience with cloudbased computing (GCP AWS or HPC)
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles & SysML

This position is a salary grade 1.
