About the Role:

The Mtis Community Diversion Coordinator (MCDC) MNO Advocacy Program reports to the Supervisor of Advocacy. The Coordinator oversees the MNOs Mtis Community Diversion Program (the Program and volunteers) in locations throughout region 3 however servicing particularly in the Timmins and Cochrane court house regions.

The MCDC advocates for restorative justice alternatives within the criminal justice system. The Coordinator works with court staff and other partners to provide legal supports and information to clients facilitates client referrals internally and externally provides information to queries about the criteria for the program advocates for candidates for diversion circle participation facilitates the diversion circles and codevelops a diversion circle action plan with clients and diversion circle volunteers. Additionally the MCDC assists clients with action plan follow through and reports back to justice parties on the status of the clients progress.

The MCDC assists Mtis accused 12 yrs) at pre and postcharge stages of the criminal justice system with: securing legal counsel attending court and understanding criminal proceedings presenting testimony in written or verbal form before the Court on behalf of the client. The MCDC is responsible for collaborating with clients to develop a reasonable diversion action plan in response to offences assists with bail hearings makes referrals and coordinates diversion circles. Additionally the MCDC is responsible for liaising with Crown Attorneys defense counsel and other partner organizations to build awareness of Mtis restorative justice alternatives.
