Job Description

Job Summary:

Reporting to the VPAA or designee the Early College Liaison is responsible for fostering positive relationships
between Shaw University and the Wake Young Mens Leadership Academy (WYMLA) and the Wake Young Womens
Leadership Academy (WYTWLA) Early College programs (collectively known as the Early College) through effective
and timely communication. As the chief advocate for and support to the Early College high school time will be
devoted to directly serving students and meeting program needs of the Early College high school. Additionally the
liaisons time will be spent performing duties such as coordinating the use of classroom space coordinating college
Math placement testing coordinating vertical teaming between faculties and participating on various high school and
higher education partner joint committees as appropriate.

Essential Job Functions:

Coordinating Schedules
Assist sites in developing four or fiveyear plans of study combining secondary and postsecondary
coursework to ensure the attainment of transferable college credit.
Assists in providing academic resources such as tutoring and/or other targeted student support services.
Maintains records including student files; prepares reports and surveys; collects and maintains statistical data.
Assists with the planning scheduling and of training programs lectures workshops meetings and
special events.
Acts as a liaison to various Schools to ensure smooth operations and quality service.
Oversee Early College planning to synchronize high school and college schedules manage room allocation
and instructor assignments and address scheduling gaps when college is not in session.
Coordinate with secondary and postsecondary staff to align schedules support student registration and
ensure access to required coursework.
Assist in the development of schedules that support gradual transitions into increasing levels of independence
in postsecondary coursework.
Be responsible for ensuring that on the days the college is not in session but the Early College is that the
details have been worked out and communicated.
Coordinate the use of college facilities.
Assess student development and program goals.
Coordinate with secondary and postsecondary staff to align schedules support student registration and
ensure access to required coursework.

Structure
Policy Development and Coordination: (This work forms the basis for the Early College/Shaw Universitys
Memorandum of Understanding but not limited to.
Facilitate and oversee monthly meetings with Early College Administrators and the Vice President of
Academic Affairs (or their designee) to assess program progress address challenges and identify
opportunities for improvement. Ensure effective communication collaboration and alignment of goals to
support student success and program growth.
Assist secondary planning team in developing policies for awarding high school credits for university
coursework.
Collaborate in developing policy statements for students such as: Attendance data collection grading policies
and procedures behavior and code of conduct parking bus services access to college facilities and
resources (library computer labs etc. and inclement weather coordination.
Develop and facilitate policies and procedures for placement of students into postsecondary courses
including: Placement test scores coordination EOC test scores Portfolio development Alternative
assessments.
Participate in appropriate working committees.

Curriculum development and coordination such as but not limited to:
Facilitate curriculum planning (Example: the LeaderShift courses) between secondary and postsecondary
subject areas to reduce redundancy and maximize collaboration.
Facilitate cooperative planning to align secondary and postsecondary expectations.
Coordinate between university and high school staff to identify professional development that is appropriate or
deemed necessary.

Guidance Support and Advocacy such as but not limited to:
Connect Early College students to student life on campus through special events such as Black History
month student council etc.
Communicate with parents of Early College students and university faculty concerning policy and procedures
for Early College program.
Educate the university and the community at large concerning Early College.
Participate in as many parent high school activities as possible.
Collaborate with university and high school disability access service staff to ensure proper support.

Job Qualifications
Required Education and/or Experience
Bachelors degree required from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Degree in Education Public Affairs or related field preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Demonstrated understanding and a strong commitment to cultural diversity.
Demonstrated mastery of relevant technological capacities (e.g. Microsoft Office suite) and ability to master
college systems (e.g. Moodle Jenzabar).

Certificates Licenses or Registrations
If the College Liaison will teach college level courses they must possess the minimum credential standards of the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) which normally includes at
least 18 graduate semester credit hours in the subject area or suitable approved justifications.

presentation skills. Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team. Excellence in the organization
decisionmaking problemsolving and creating a collaborative environment. Ability to manage multiple projects
simultaneously. Must be able to read write and speak fluently in English.

Physical Demands
Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally) bending and carrying.
Specific vision abilities include the ability to use close vision. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear and
to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
