What we do:

The Legal Assistant II is in the Colorado Department of Revenue Liquor & Tobacco Enforcement Division (LED). This work unit is responsible for the drafting revising implementing and tracking of all rules instituted by the DOR/LED. This work unit also reviews all legilslation and is the liasison to the Colorado Attorney Generals office regarding legal concerns. This work unit is responsible for all contract management within LED. This work unit prepares and produces all legal documents for use by the division.

Job Duties:

This position is located in theLiquor & Tobacco Enforcement Division and is a part of the Policy Team.This position assists their supervisor and the legal section team of the Division in preparing legal documents such as orders to show cause denial notices hearing notices stipulations and agreements and subpoenas. This position also assists their supervisor in drafting and preparing material for rulemaking for both Liquor and Tobacco Industries. This position maintains and updates the policy and procedure manual for LED at the direction of the Policy Advisor and creates and maintains tracking documents and processes.

LEGAL ASSISTANT II
Education and Experience:
Paralegal certificate obtained through either an American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal studies program or an accredited institution.
AND
One year of paralegal experience.

Substitutions:
Two years of work experience in a paralegal capacity which included conducting legal research preparing drafts of legal documents and gathering and compiling data from legal references and resources will substitute for the required certificate.

A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school may substitute for the required certificate.


Necessary Special Requirements:
Applicants must possess a valid Colorado drivers license; must be willing and able to work nights rotating shifts weekends and holidays; and must be willing and able to travel both in and out of state as required.

Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will possess the following:
  • Experience with Colorado Rules and Statues in a regulatory environment.
  • Have a law degree and a license to practice law in the state of Colorado and have the demonstrated ability to perform legal research and prepare legal documents independently.
  • Professional experience with legislative processes rulemaking drafting of regulations or other relevant regulatory duties.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders with competing interests.
  • Background and experience in liquor law legislation and regulation.
  • Must be proficient in both Microsoft Word and Excel.

Conditions of Employment with theCDOR:

Employees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty integrity and public confidence.


As a condition of employment with the CDOR all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations therefore all employees must undergo a preemployment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy. Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment. Certain positions based on duties may require scheduled background investigations.
