Job Description
The Bioinformatics Research Scientist is responsible for modifying and operating data analysis pipelines under direct supervision. Works closely with senior scientists to generate/provide analysis results and reports project reports and perform requested custom analyses.
Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluate data for quality assurance and mine relevant (e.g. bioinformatics biomedical cheminformatics) databases.
- Perform comprehensive NGS sequencing (including bulk and singlecell RNAseq/ATACseq and ChIPseq) analysis algorithm implementation programming and quality check on data to be loaded into biomedical database.
- Adopt new and improved tools and webbased applications from literatures. Learn necessary biology knowledge to facilitate bioinformatic analysis.
- Assist in the evaluation of products and solutions pertaining to St. Judes technology needs in maintaining databases or data warehouse and project reports.
- Work with stakeholders (e.g. HPFC IS vendors) to ensure tools are up to date and maintain databases.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance in person.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- Bachelors degree in bioinformatics cheminformatics statistics/computer science (with a background in biological sciences or chemistry) or related field.
- Masters degree or PhD preferred.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum Requirement: Bachelors degree with 6 years of relevant postdegree work in bioinformatics cheminformatics statistics/computer science (with a background in biological sciences or chemistry).
- Experience Exception: Masters degree with 4 years of relevant postdegree experience (OR) PhD with no experience.
- Experience in at least one programming or scripting language and at least one statistical package with R preferred.
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets experience and training licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
