Job Description
Incorporated in 1955 Ocean Steel services several markets including Atlantic Canada the Eastern United States Bermuda and the Caribbean. Although they specialize in fabricating and erecting structural steel for buildings and bridges they also manufacture and install platework such as breechings stacks ducts penstocks process & storage tanks and custom processequipment. OceanSteels two New Brunswick plants include the original location in Saint John as well as the York Steel Plant in Fredericton which was acquired by Ocean Steel in 1995.
Responsibilities:
- Position align and fitting of structural metal or steel
- Determine material requirements and task sequences with the use of shop drawings
- Mark reference points on workpieces using measuring devices squares chalk or soapstone
- Lift or move steel materials into position using overhead cranes
- Regular use of jigs welding torches and hand tools
Requirements:
- Successful completion of preemployment college program or equivalent experience
- Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification (Block 1
- 1 to 3 years experience in structural steel fabricating
