You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Operating Room/Organ Preservation Technician assists the operating room staff before during and after donor organ recovery procedures as well as during organ transplant procedures and other hepatobiliary procedures. Under the direction of a physician prepares organs for perfusion and monitors preservation parameters during perfusion reporting perfusion parameters to the surgeon. As a certified operating room technician possesses the knowledge of the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy surgical procedures and implementation tools to facilitate a physicians performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Responsible for maintaining the Organ Preservation Lab including ordering and rotating supplies and ensuring proper inventory and storage. Ensures that Organ Preservation Lab equipment is optimally maintained. Collects data per UNOS requirements and University Hospital protocols. This position reports to the Operating Room Nursing Management for OR Tech and Organ Preservationist responsibilities and to the Administrative Director of Liver Center administratively as a team member.
High School Diploma/GED required. Associates Degree in a science preferred. Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technician Program and certified as a Certified Surgical Technician (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or equivalent required. AHA CPR required. Two 2 years of surgical technology experience required. Experience with transplant procedures and organ preservation preferred. Experience in other medical field such as LPN EMT etc. may be considered at managements discretion. Must have understanding patience and tact in dealing with physicians and coworkers. Must pay attention to detail. Must have excellent handeye coordination. Must be selfmotivated and work in an efficient and effective manner. Potential for cuts bruises muscle strains and exposure to contagious disease. Potential for exposure to anesthesia waste gases ethylene oxide harsh disinfectants sterilizing agents high steam pressure agents and radiation. Willingness to work with employees at various levels of skill knowledge and abilities. Must be available to provide oncall services for liver transplant procedures.
