Summary

Are you ready to put your skills behind the wheel and make a meaningful impact in maintaining and improving our communitys infrastructure King County Road Services Division is looking for dedicated safety conscious Truck Drivers to join our dynamic team. Our ideal candidates will have experience in transporting materials conducting safety inspections performing minor vehicle maintenance be team players and have a background in construction and road maintenance. The Maintenance Section of the Road Services Division is responsible for maintaining and improving roadways and related infrastructure in unincorporated King County and contract cities. Our goal is to preserve and enhance roadway conditions efficiently and sustainably ensuring public safety and protecting community investments.

Job Duties

Applying equity racial and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. In this role you will apply equity and social justice principles that exemplify shared values behaviors and practices to all aspects of the work.

To be considered for this opportunity you must at a minimum demonstrate knowledge skill and ability to:

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift carry move or handle up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform duties involving physical labor including bending kneeling standing reaching climbing stooping squatting pushing and twisting.

Additional Requirements(successful candidates must):
  • Successfully pass a preemployment physical.
  • Submit to drug testing and test negative for presence of controlled substances; sign a Consent Form for release of Information for each employer for the past three 3 years; and successfully pass a background check for Alcohol and Controlled Substances testing and a CDL background information check.
  • Have a valid Washington State Class A Commercial Drivers License and Medical certification prior to the Practical Exam date without the following restrictions:
    • L No Air Brake equipped CMV Z
    • No Full air brake equipped CMV E
    • No Manual transmission equipped CMV

SafetySensitive Position:
  • This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for these positions are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to commencement of employment will be subject to random postaccident reasonable suspicion return to duty and followup drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substance testing program protocols.

Work Location:
  • Multiple sites across King County WA. The primary operations site is based in Renton WA. with outlying maintenance shops located in: Black Diamond Vashon Skykomish Fall City and Redmond.
    • We are currently recruiting for the following locations: Redmond WA and Fall City WA.

PRACTICAL/INTERVIEWS ALL IN ONE DAY:
Those candidates who pass the initial screening will be invited to participate in a inperson practical exam and interview. Only those who passthepracticalassessmentwill move forwardto the interview. The practical and interview will take place on the same day the week of April 14th 2025.

WHO MAY APPLY:
This recruitment is open to all qualified applicantsand may be used to fill current and or/future career service termlimited temporary shortterm temporary and or/special duty positions over the next six months.


Special duty opportunities are open only to current King County career service employees who have completed theirinitialprobation. Special duty applicants must have approval from their current supervisor to accept an assignment. Current employees selected for special duty will be compensated based upon the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement King County Personnel Guidelinesor Coalition Labor Agreement for their base assignment.

WORK SCHEDULE:
The work
schedule will consist of five eighthour days in the fall/winter Monday Friday 7:00 am 3:30 pm andfour tenhour days in thespring/summer Monday Thursday 6:00 am 4:30 pm.This position is NonExempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay with priorsupervisor approval.


EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS:
First Responder:Employees who in theearly stagesof an incidentare responsible forprotecting and preserving life property evidence the environment and restoring order.
