About the role
We are seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Leader to join our Tax team in San Francisco. In this role you will drive our global indirect tax strategy manage compliance and partner with crossfunctional teams to support Anthropics growth. As we expand internationally you will be instrumental in building scalable tax processes and minimizing risk.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all aspects of global indirect tax compliance including sales and use tax VAT/GST telecommunications tax and other indirect taxes
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize indirect tax processes including potential inhouse return preparation
- Lead the implementation and maintenance of sales tax engine systems ensuring proper integration with finance systems
- Collaborate with finance product legal and operations teams to ensure proper tax treatment of our growing product offerings
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and service providers
- Support international expansion through VAT/GST planning and compliance
- Oversee indirect tax audits and notices including preparation of supporting documentation and audit defense
- Research and document company positions regarding indirect tax exposures
- Develop implement and improve tax accounting practices and procedures for indirect taxes
- Prepare and review tax accruals and manage tax compliance calendar
You may be a good fit if you have:
- 810 years of indirect tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax departments
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field; Masters in Taxation and/or CPA preferred
- Strong technical knowledge of US sales and use tax systems and international VAT/GST requirements
- Proven experience implementing and managing sales tax engine systems (e.g. Avalara Vertex)
- Handson experience with finance and ERP systems (NetSuite experience a plus)
- Experience with SaaS and cloudbased services taxation preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead system implementations and integrate tax engines with finance platforms
- Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills with ability to research complex tax issues
- Strong project management capabilities to handle multiple deadlines and priorities
- Exceptional communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Adaptability to a fastpaced highgrowth environment with changing priorities
- Ability to operate independently while maintaining alignment with broader tax strategy
Strong candidates may have:
- Experience in the AI machine learning or technology industry
- Experience supporting digital products and international expansion
- Knowledge of property tax and telecommunications tax requirements
- Experience with process automation tools like Power BI or Alteryx

Logistics
Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Locationbased hybrid policy: Currently we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25 of the time. However some roles may require more time in our offices.
