Job Description

As an Animal Attendant you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of approximately 123 rooms in our Companion Animal Hospital used to provide veterinary services to over 28000 patients annually. Maintain hallways and other assigned floors which include dust mopping and mopping daily as well as stripping waxing and polishing as needed and as time allows. You will clean and disinfect all areas throughout the shift which includes exam rooms between clients trash removal and removal and disposal of bio hazardous wastes.

Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma with at least 6 months prior experience including direct experience with companion animal handling in a veterinary facility using various holding techniques and in housekeeping/custodial/disinfection work or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of basic infection control practices and the ability to adhere to and enforce those practices.

  • Experience in the use of various disinfectants and proper procedures.

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including but not limited to handling 50 lbs or more with assistance the ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as the ability to kneel and remain in a steady position during procedures or treatment of animals.

  • Basic computer skills and the ability to enter specific information into patient records.

  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Must communicate well with others in a professional manner including with students veterinary technicians clinicians and clients while using good judgment in setting priorities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fastpaced and often demanding environment while paying close attention to details and demonstrating a high level of initiative.

  • Rabies immunizations will be required and cost is covered by the department. Knowledge of medical terminology helpful

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca NY.

  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future for this position.

  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

  • The primary schedule for this position is Tuesday Friday 6:00pm 4:30am which is subject to change based on university needs

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24hour care for pets 365 days of the year. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care and service needs are provided without interruption or exception. The schedule may shift and include evening/overnight and weekend shifts as well as holiday and overtime shifts.
