Description

The Keene Family YMCA is seeking a parttime Climbing Wall Instructor to assist with the development organization implementation and delivery of highquality climbing wall programs and to assist with overseeing all classes open climbs and rentals staffing and training. In this role you will lead and instruct climbing classes and open climb sessions in a safe enjoyable culturally aware and positive environment that promotes youth development social responsibility and healthy living in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members participants volunteers and guests while exemplifying the Ys commitment to the fourcharacter values of caring honesty respect & responsibility and responds to all member and community inquiries in a timely manner.
  2. Leads energizing fun culturally aware safe and educational group classes as directed by the supervisor to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  3. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.
  4. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  5. Builds effective culturally aware authentic relationships with members helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  6. Provides direct supervision and instruction to climbing participants in accordance with the YMCA best practices policies and procedures.
  7. Conveys program information surveys and annual campaign to participants.
  8. Follows all YMCA emergency and safety procedures.
  9. Participates in staff meeting training events reviews and other scheduled events.
  10. Setup and maintain class equipment uses and configuration and be accountable for housekeeping in the climbing area.
  11. Arrives early to class to provide a 10minute set up time for all class rentals and open climb.
  12. Be punctual and dependable.
  13. Upholds all YMCA policies procedures standards and code of conduct.
  14. Project a positive enthusiastic and professional image on the job.
  15. Be selfmotivated and can work independently or as a team member.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Meets 80 to 100 of the following qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 16 years of age
  2. Must have 12 years of experience with climbing
  3. Ability to perform duties with professionalism enthusiasm kindness empathy care honesty and respect.
  4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  5. Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with class participants superiors and coworkers.
  6. Must be able to implement oral and written instructions.
  7. Exercises mature judgment and sound decision making.
  8. Must work very well in a team environment and be physically able to move climbing equipment.
  9. Must have basic belay knowledge and proper use of climbing equipment.
  10. Willingness to learn additional areas in the climbing department.

PREFERED LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have at least 5 years experience with climbing
  2. Must be belayed certified using ATC and GRIGRI devices.
  3. Working knowledge and experience with climbing harnesses ropes belay devices carabineers and other related climbing apparatus required.
  4. Must have a fundamental knowledge of climbing skills and the ability to demonstrate belay techniques.
  5. Must have knowledge of proper use of climbing equipment.
