Job Title: Instructor Orthopedic Trauma PA/NP

Position #Requisition #36244

Job Summary:

This is a unique opportunity to work in a busy academic orthopedic trauma and fracture surgery practice with one of the premier orthopedic trauma groups in the front range of Colorado. The position will be a fulltime exempt (nonhourly) Instructor Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner position in the Department of Orthopedics under the supervision of Dr. Jason Stoneback. The employee will work in the Denver/Aurora area of Colorado. The position is not eligible for tenure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on assigned patients; assesses and treats acute/chronic medical problems and provides direct patient care to a specified patient population. Writes prescriptions for medications PT OT imaging studies and DME as needed. Completes FMLA paperwork school notes and other forms as needed.
  • Assists in providing outpatient clinic Emergency Department inpatient floor preop intraop and postop care; writes appropriate orders including those for narcotics and other scheduled . There will be fracture reduction casting splinting and dressing required.
  • Performs emergency lifesaving procedures in cases such as cardiac arrest respiratory arrest massive hemorrhage or similar emergencies. Provides fracture reductions in ER or office as needed but not conscious sedation. Perform joint aspirations and injections.
  • Notifies attending physician on call house physician on call or supervising physician regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation.
  • Practices safety environmental and/or infection control methods.
  • Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic. Works with the team to ensure smooth operation of the clinic.
  • Writes progress notes indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed; maintains other office and hospital records as required.
  • Provides health education to patients and families.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs current literature reviews inservice meetings and workshops.
  • Participates (attend present organize) in educational programs of the CU Orthopedic Trauma and Fracture Surgery Division including weekly academic conference journal club and symposia.
  • Contributes to community outreach events including giving educational talks and visiting referring provider offices.
  • Assist orthopedic surgeon in operating room setting.
  • Help develop written educational materials and treatment protocols for specific conditions and postoperative care.
  • Assist in preparing and giving PowerPoint and poster presentations for educational purposes at institutional local and national meetings.
  • May perform clinical research related to specific conditions and assist in preparation of manuscripts for publication.
  • Must become proficient in documentation and use of the Electronic Medical Record and be an available resource to other health care providers.
  • Will assist in ER and hospital call coverage. Telephone triage of urgent patients will be a critical function.
  • Performs miscellaneous jobrelated duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • State of Colorado Certified Physicians Assistant or Inclusion on the State of Colorado Advanced Practice Registry as an Advance Practice Nurse
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants
  • CPR or BLS Certified

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience preferred. May be willing to train new grad with previous hospital/ortho experience or exceptional qualities.
  • 6 months to 1 year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Strong desire to work in Orthopedic Trauma and Fracture Surgery.

The above salary range or hiring range represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is nonexempt.
