The Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine Cornell University Ithaca New York invites applications for a full time tenuretrack faculty position in dairyproduction and foodsupply veterinary medicine.

Individuals having a DVM degree or equivalent and demonstrated research capacity and performance (PhD preferred) in an area related to population medicine of importance to the dairy industry are urged to apply. Preference will be given to individuals who have developed their dairyproduction medicine skills through advanced training. In addition applicants should have knowledge and experience in dairyproduction systems and their impact outside of academia. Other desirable qualities of the successful candidate include experience in conducting research strong interpersonal skills leadership talent publicspeaking experience and the ability to work in collaborative research clinical and teaching environments. Individuals must possess and maintain a valid drivers license.

The responsibilities of the position will include: providing clinical service on local farms cosupervising three house officers sharing backup emergency duties with other faculty conducting research and teaching in the DVM curriculum. The candidate is envisioned to spend 50 effort in clinical service including clinical teaching; the remainder of the effort will be 35 research and 15 didactic teaching. The clinic sees about 35000 animals per year 85 of which are dairy cattle and includes a bull stud. The remainder of the caseload shared amongst all clinic members is made up of horses small ruminants swine and camelids.

The individual will be a key participant providing academic leadership to the Colleges mission in dairyproduction medicine and veterinary public health. This may include developing maintaining and teaching in special training programs public advocacy for the profession and College and curricular oversight as the College recruits and trains veterinarians for future roles in foodsupply veterinary medicine.

The successful candidates responsibilities will include the development of an independent research program consistent with the goals of the department. This should be done through extramurally generated grants; collaborative efforts may supplement these. Specific areas of strength within the department and the college include the epidemiology of production and companion animals shelter medicine food and waterborne diseases wildlife health diagnostic sciences and genetics. Excellent opportunities exist for research and collaborations within the Veterinary College and with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Teaching of dairyrelated material in core courses and in relevant elective courses is expected. Clinical teaching of large animal primary care and dairy production medicine will be through practice in the Ambulatory and Production Medicine Clinic. In addition maintaining and developing DVM elective courses graduate education and special training programs in the applicants focus area will be part of the teaching program.

Salary and rank will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.
