Join the power movement as a Scientific Software Engineer
The Scientific Software team at CFS develops software that helps us understand superconducting magnets and tokamaks. The primary project for this role will be development of internal simulation tools for superconducting magnets.
HTS magnets are a key component to CFSs path to commercial fusion. We seek an experienced software engineer (Senior to Principal level) to help develop computational tools to aid the design construction and test of HTS magnets. This includes tools to predict the physical behavior of magnet components (using finite difference finite element boundary element methods etc. optimize magnet design perform data analysis and postprocessing visualize data etc. The software engineer will work directly with software users across interdisciplinary and diverse teams involved in magnet development (electromagnetics engineering materials etc..
What youll do:
- Work as part of a team to develop simulation software across multiple domains of physics and computational approaches
- Discover need for plan implementation of and deliver software interfaces that meet the needs of multiple internal teams
- Help scientists and engineers build application workflows using internal simulation tools
- Implement CI/CD processes to reduce maintenance overhead and error rates
What were looking for:
- Bachelors degree in a technical field preferred
- Worked on highconsequence software for analysis of physical systems
- Programming language: Python including type hinting
- Completed a large project either in a strongly typed language or rigorously using the type hinting features of Python.
- Experience in independently setting up a new software project including CI/CD processes linting unit testing and software documentation
- Solid understanding of numerical methods optimization techniques linear algebra and differential equations
Bonus points for:
- Programming languages: C Rust or experience with lowlevel performance and memory management.
- Concurrency and parallelization
- Simulation and solution strategies for physical systems
- Packaging and distribution of software
- Proficient in one of the following domains:
- o Computational structural mechanics
- o Computational electromagnetics
- Experience with optimization machine learning developing surrogate models etc
Musthave Requirements:
- Perform activities such as typing or sitting for extended periods of time
- Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat cold noise fumes strong magnets lead (Pb) high voltage and cryogenics
- Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/oncall occasionally
$150000 $250000 a year
Salary range for this fulltime position equity benefits.The actual salary will depend on level location qualifications and experience. The range displayed on each job posting reflects new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Benefits include:
