PURPOSE OF POSITION
Prepare and serve wellbalanced and nutritious meals for clients/special events. Serve clients in a courteous helpful and prompt manner. Provide support in various areas that will include but are not limited to dish washing and minor food shopping.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following)
Prepare/ serve food for Covenant House clients /special events.
Clean and sanitize dishes/kitchen utensils.
Provide assistance in the development of daily menu.
Complete production sheet on a daily basis.
Strictly follow sanitation hygiene and food handling standards as per Department of Health and Hygiene.
Promptly reports equipment and food quality or shortage problems to Kitchen Supervisor.
Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education & Experience
High School diploma/GED and Certificate in Food Protection required.
Culinary school diploma A PLUS
23 years experience in the food service industry
Knowledge/Skills
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to operate institutional ovens steamers kettles and slicers
Highly skilled in food preparation and presentation of food
Must have knowledge in knife skills
Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised
Must be willing to follow direction and ask questions for clarification if needed.
Must be able to communicate clearly with managers kitchen and dining room personnel.
Ability to consistently comply with our standard portion sizes and cooking methods quality standards and kitchen rules recipes policies and procedures.
Knowledgeable in the proper technique in food preparation
Be able to reach bend stoop and frequently lift 40 pounds and up
Knowledge of National School Lunch Program (NSLP)
$17.12 hourly rate
$35609.60 annual
Compensation
Covenant House New York offers a rich package of benefits including but not limited to full medical vision dental life and short and longterm disability insurance and other fringe benefits. Eligibility for medical benefits begins on the date of hire. PTO includes 3 weeks of vacation in the first year 10 holidays 13 sick days 5 personal days and birthday days off. Benefits include a 403b with employer contribution after 12 months. There are also multiple additional optional benefits (including additional life disability accident and cancer insurance) available at significantly reduced rates.
