The International Center of Photography (ICP) is the worlds leading institution dedicated to photography and visual culture. Through our exhibitions education public programs and community outreach we offer an open forum for dialogue about the power of the image. Since our founding in 1974 we have presented more than 700 exhibitions and offered thousands of classes providing instruction at every level. Our new integrated center on the Lower East Side reunites our school and museum in one space to become the cultural anchor of Essex Crossing.


Position Summary:

Youth Programs Liaisons (YPL) work with participants and administrators of ICPs youth programming to help create and maintain supportivecourse workshop and public program environments for young people learning about concerned photography. YPLs assist with a variety of different youth programming. The exact assignments will vary based on availability and the volume of programming happening at a given time.


Position Schedule:


Youth Programs Liaisons (YPL) work on a variety of programs throughout the year that have a varied schedule. There is also flexibility to work some programs and not others. Ideal availability and schedule we are looking for includes the list below but need not include all of them.

During the academic year:

Availability on Friday evenings between 4pm8pm.

Saturdays and/or Sundays between 9am5pm.

During the summer:

MondayFriday 9:30am4:30pm

Required: Orientation on June 30th or July 1st from 4pm6pm.


Essential Functions and Duties:


  • Represent ICP and ICP youth programming at tabling events school visits and other scheduled events
  • Support Teen Foto Fridays to ensure successful program a positive participant experience and smooth operations by assisting with event coordination providing technical and instructional support and handling administrative tasks. Related responsibilities include:
  • Assist Visitor Experience Facilities and Equipment staff to help create a welcoming and wellprepared environment for teens at Teen Foto Friday events.
  • Support student checkin and checkout to maintain accurate attendance and ensure a smooth process.
  • students in getting familiar with the space including equipment usage and where to store their belongings.
  • Sign photo lab equipment in and out as needed.
  • Prepare test strips when required.
  • Manage paper availability and usage during the event.
  • Organize and secure materials at the end of the event.
  • Capture activity photos during the event.
  • Help address conflicts and notify others when necessary.
  • Rotate duties with other Youth Programs Liaisons as assigned.
  • Send a brief wrapup email to the administrative team about the event.
  • Assist with inschool residency programming as assigned including:
  • Pick up and transport supplies from ICP to the school as needed.
  • Back up images to an ICP storage drive.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students during class helping them with tasks and answering questions.
  • Assist with classroom setup tech prep cleanup saving files and participate in debriefs with the teaching team.
  • Assist with fall spring and summer courses by:
  • Updating volunteer TAs with irregular schedules on class progress and activities.
  • Supporting students in staying on track with coursework assignments and technical skills.
  • Tracking student attendance and reaching out to absent students to check in.
  • Scanning documenting editing and uploading images of student work and class activities for program marketing.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks related to registration preparation and event wrapup.
  • Accompanying students on offsite photo assignments and field trips.
  • Attend an annual training session and other scheduled team meetings

Notes:

All ICP employees are responsible for clocking in and out at the start and end of each shift.

All ICP employees are expected to respond to emails in a timely manner

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

One year of prior experience working with young people in a class workshop school museum and/or camp environment in a volunteer or staff capacity

Must have flexibility to work some weekends and evenings


Preferred Qualifications:

Past experience as an ICP volunteer Teaching Assistant with Youth Programs

Past student of Teen Academy or POINT

One year of office and administrative experience ideally in an educational and/or photographic environment

Education Qualifications:

High School Degree or equivalent

Completion of Teen Academy or Open Education classes at ICP or POINT preferred

Specialized Knowledge Licenses or Certifications required:

General knowledge of analogue and digital photography

Experience with film developing and darkroom printing preferred


Core Competency Requirements (Skills and Abilities)

Interpersonal Communication Ability to engage effectively with diverse groups including students staff and external partners through clear verbal and written communication. Demonstrates strong communication skills in representing ICP addressing questions and facilitating connections at events and programming.

Event Coordination Capable of independently coordinating event logistics including preparation setup and followthrough. Demonstrates a high level of organization and attention to detail in coordinating resources and ensuring the smooth of events.

Technical Proficiency Competent in using and troubleshooting technical equipment including photo lab gear and digital systems. Can independently manage setup support students with technical tasks and resolve basic issues that arise during programming.

Instructional Support Able to support students both individually and in groups providing clear instructions and guidance. Demonstrates a strong understanding of course material and is capable of helping students progress through assignments and technical tasks with minimal supervision.

Administrative Organization Demonstrates strong organizational skills in handling administrative tasks such as tracking attendance sending followup emails and managing student data. Able to efficiently organize materials and support program needs with attention to detail and timeliness.

Team Collaboration Able to work effectively within a team contributing ideas and taking on shared responsibilities. Demonstrates flexibility and a cooperative attitude in collaborating with colleagues ensuring tasks are completed smoothly and program goals are met.

Multitasking and Prioritization Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a high level of focus and quality. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize urgent tasks and balance competing demands effectively ensuring deadlines are met without sacrificing quality.

Conflict Identification and Reporting Ability to recognize when conflicts arise and notify the appropriate individuals. Maintain a calm and respectful demeanor helping to ensure a positive environment and supporting the resolution process as needed.

Salary Description

$22 an hour
