Responsible for advancing the wellbeing academic success and lifelong achievement and health of students. Facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety including a healthy environment; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation selfmanagement selfadvocacy and learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assume responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care.
Report to parents school personnel physicians clinics and other agencies on school medical matters under the direction of the building.
Provide health care for chronic and acute illnesses as well as injuries.
Provide healthrelated education to students school staff and other school personnel to promote health safety and a healthy school environment.
Advise on the modification of the educational program to meet the health needs of individual students.
Advise on the exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infections and contagious diseases.
Serve as a resource for the health curriculum.
Assist with school registrations on health issues and immunization requirements.
Dispense student medication per school policies.
Maintain confidentiality in the school operation.
Serve as a member of the Building Emergency Response Team under the direction of the building principal.
Act as liaison to provide families with referral information along with available community resources to improve access to health care.
Maintain accurate health records for all students to include mandatory immunization certificates.
Assume primary responsibility for maintaining an appropriate inventory of medical aid supplies in the school.
Review medical orders to guide the health care needed to assist each student to be safe and successful at school.
Counsel students in good health habits.

Competencies To perform the job successfully an individual should demonstrate the following competencies as defined and approved by the Iowa Department of Education.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum qualifications include being a registered nurse with a license from the Board of Nursing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a School Nurse Statement of Professional Recognition from the Board of Educational Examiners is required. National Certified School Nurse (NCSN) is preferred but not required. Must possess proper state certification and licensure for position.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical to the success of this position. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization including students parents staff principals and central administration. Communication will include individual to large group presentations as well as written communications and reports. The individual must have effective listening skills.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
Position requires the individual to be competent in information gathering through technology. The ability to communicate through technology is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Normal office physical demands. May periodically have moderate physical demands and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Generally the employee works inside.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Will perform other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee necessary and appropriate to the achievement of the program and/or District goals and objectives.
