Job Description

Title: Residential Aide Asylum Shelter

Location: TBD

Salary Range: $34000 $34000

FLSA Classification: Fulltime Nonexempt

This position is nonexempt because the primary duties of Residential Aides do not require them to perform work which requires advanced knowledge in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction and study.

Role Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Asylum Shelter Residential Aide to ensure the safety security and wellbeing of both asylum seekers and staff as well as maintaining a secure and welcoming environment in compliance with asylum seekerspecific policies and operational procedures.

Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:

The Asylum Shelter Residential Aide will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Diligentlymonitoringasylum seekers living units dormitories and facility premises to ensure the safety and security of eachresident.
  • Adheringto asylum seekerspecific shelter policies while following staff policies andprocedures.
  • Conductingessential administrative tasks includingmaintainingdetailed communication logs documenting asylum seeker activities behaviors andengagement.
  • Providingcompassionateassistanceto asylum seekers addressing questions and promptly resolving any arisingissues.
  • Thoroughlyinspecting all items entering the facility to guarantee the safety of asylum seekers andstaff.
  • Monitoringvideo footage ofcommon areassuch as hallways staircases andlounges.
  • Strictlyadhering to safety health and fire hazard guidelines organizational policies and procedures as well as the mission and values of theorganization.
  • Conducting regular hourly rounds of thefacility.
  • Promptlyreporting any immediate safety hazards toappropriate supervisoryor maintenancepersonnel.
  • Collaboratingwith security personnel to ensure the safety of both staff and asylum seekers in theprogram.
  • Preparingliving spaces for vacancies including emptying cleaning and properly tagging asylum seekers belongings whennecessary.
  • Accuratelydocumenting all incident details participants actions taken andoutcomes.
  • Demonstratingflexibility in scheduling including the possibility of working evenings weekends and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  2. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25pounds.
  3. Must beable to travel to multiple NYC sites as needed.
  4. Frequent bending lifting reaching and extended walking.
  5. Ability to climb stairs.

Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:

  1. Office setting with regular exposure to computer screens and moderate noise levels.
  2. May be to work shifts including evenings or night tours and/or Saturdays Sundays and holidays with holiday pay differential.
  3. Employees are not permitted to leave their assigned posts/workstations without authorization.

Qualifications:

  • NYS Security License preferred.
  • F02 Certificate ofFitness.
  • CPR/Basic First Aidcertification.
  • Foodhandler certificate NYC/NYS.
  • Abilitytoestablishand maintain professional boundaries when working with asylumseekers.
  • Priorexperience in a residential facility isadvantageous.
  • Knowledgeof HIPAA guidelines andstandards.
  • Exceptionalwritten and verbal communicationskills.
  • Strongproblemsolving and analyticalabilities.
  • Commitmentto excellence andhighstandards.
  • Demonstratedgood judgment with the ability to maketimelyand sounddecisions.
  • Proficiencyin assessing emergency situations and respondingeffectively.
  • Bilingual(Spanish French Creole or other languages) preferred.
  • Must beable to read speak write and understand English for administrative purposes.
  • Must pass drug screening to be appointed.
  • This positionmay besubject to a series of investigations beforeand afterappointment.
