Job Description

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully reenter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The Department of Correction seeks to appoint an Executive Director Central Operations Desk (COD) who under the direction of the Associate Commissioner of Security Operations with wide latitude for the exercise of independent action and decisionmaking will lead and manage the agencys 24/7 operational communications system and unit. The chosen candidate will have demonstrated experience managing daytoday operational communications such as situational awareness emergency coordination incident documentation operations of the agencys robust incident reporting system. The selected candidates responsibilities may include but will not be limited to the following:

Manage and lead a team of supervisors coordinators and administrative staff;
Develop performance programs and conduct evaluations of the staff.
Ensure highquality and timely responses to all inquiries regarding all activities
reported into COD.
Manage COD as the central exchange of agency incident information.
Ensure incident alerts and reports and ensure the accuracy of COD incident
alerts and reports.
Coordinate nonincident special alerts as directed.
Coordinate information sharing with internal stakeholders to monitor and update
the status of incident response.
Managing communication with external interagency partners such as the SCOC
NYPD FDNY and agencies as needed.
Ensure adequate staffing for tours of duty and address any scheduling changes.
Ensure that communication about incidents within jails outposts department locations/operations
and transportation operations are processed adequately including but not limited to confirming
the scope and nature of incidents ensuring that agency notifications are performed analyzing
information from multiple sources preparing reports for dissemination to executive and senior
officials and interfacing with the Departments Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
Support communications in the field for outpost/offsite incidents.
Work with stakeholders in developing training and coordinate staff training.
Identify staff to participate in and assist with drills and exercises.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Commissioner of Security
Operations and/or executive designees.
Brief senior leadership on timesensitive updates.
Collaborate on special projects with internal partners Work closely and collaboratively
with executive staff to effectively promote all policy positions and policy strategies to
critical stakeholders and external entities to achieve desired outcomes.
Analyze oversight regulations and standards and recommend appropriate agency response.
Identify trends in incident alert/correspondence to find root causes of recurring problems and
implement solutions.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

1.A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory fulltime experience in the field of investigations auditing law enforcement criminal justice or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made 18 months of which must have been in an administrative managerial or executive capacity or supervising a staff performing investigations or related work; or
2.Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 above. However all candidates must have the 18 months of experience in an administrative managerial executive or supervisory capacity as described in 1 above.
