POSITION SUMMARY
First impressions are everything! As a Downtown Cleanliness Ambassador for the City of Morgantown you will help to create the first impression of Morgantown to residents and visitors in the heart of our community! Downtown Cleanliness Ambassadors ensure that residents and visitors are provided with clean comfortable public spaces and are a part of creating a memorable experience for them. Works under the supervision of the Facilities Superintendent and the Deputy Engineering and Public Works Director and is reviewed for compliance with established procedures while working.
General duties shall include performing tasks required to maintain the public areas in a clean and maintained manner for the public; work to maintain and keep sidewalks alleys trails and other public areas clean and clear of debris and to keep sidewalks abutting city property along with crosswalks free of snow and ice during winter months.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES
Performs work to ensure the cleanliness of public spaces and right of ways with key focuses on the downtown and wharf districts.
Clean up litter cigarette butts leaves gum spilled liquids and other waste to keep sidewalks and public spaces neat and attractive. Cleaning methods include but are not limited to sweeping blowing picking power washing shoveling and other machineassisted methods.
Empty public trash receptacles and compactors along the downtown sidewalk and in other key areas.
Remove graffiti decals flyers paint posters and stickers from public spaces.
Wipe surfaces like trash cans and benches to remove dust dirt and grime.
Helps prepare rightofway and areas for special events.
Report maintenance and property damage issues and any concerns regarding public spaces to supervisors such as broken sidewalks traffic poles vandalism etc.
Clean and straighten public fixtures including trash cans utility poles traffic control boxes and benches.
Operates light equipment to aid in duties such as leaf blowers sidewalk sweepers power washers etc.
Promotes an image of professional courteous service as a representative of the City of Morgantown. This position may frequently interact with business owners residents and visitors.
Maintains paperwork works orders and other items as needed and assigned by supervisor describing materials equipment and personnel used during the day.
Cleans equipment and tools used during the workday
Wears all PPE required for a job and follows all safety policies.
Employees will use computers and other technology in limited capacities such as to receive/send communication submit timesheet request time off complete required training and more.
Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regular exposure to particularly physically demanding unpleasant strenuous and/or hazardous elements such as dealing with inclement weather operating heavy equipment etc.
Employee spends majority of work shift outdoors. Daily conditions encountered include odors fumes dust dirt noise and vibration. Other conditions vary with precipitation and seasonal changes.
Employee spends majority of work shift using equipment and performing tasks requiring repeated bending crouching stooping stretching or crawling. Occasional activities require working from elevated workplaces.
Daily operations require unaided lifting of objects weighing as much as fiftyone 51 pounds.
Constant Hazards: Danger from passing traffic.
Occasional hazards: Tripping or slipping due to terrain and weather conditions traffic or accidents when performing duties to remove snow and ice.
Possible hazards: Hazards associated with performing duties around large vehicles and equipment.
USE OF TECHNOLOGY & EQUIPMENT
Position has daily use of computers for data entry and use of the telephone radios fax machine copier etc. Position has daily use of light equipment such as push mowers whackers pole saws custodial equipment etc.
Equipment and tools used on a regular basis includes but not limited to sidewalk cleaners light duty trucks shovel power washers and broom.
CONTACT & SUPERVISION
Position involves frequent internal and external contact but generally on routine matters such as furnishing or obtaining information.
This position does not supervise any employees.
Reports to the Facilities Superintendent Deputy Director of Engineering & Public Works and Director of Engineering & Public Works.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school degree or equivalent (GED).
Certification/License: Valid Drivers License
Experience: Less than one year experience is required.
