Job Description

WellStone is North Alabamas most comprehensive behavioral healthcare provider serving over 13000 persons annually throughout Northern Alabama with offices in Huntsville and Cullman. We are a nonprofit community organization that offers a wide range of services for every phase of life from children to older adults.

Nova provides treatment for individuals ages 1525 who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis. The certified parent peer specialist is a nonclinical staff member hired to work in partnership with families who have a child experiencing their first episode of psychosis. The certified parent specialist serves as a role model and works with family members by sharing their own experiences and providing effective coping techniques and selfhelp strategies. This position is parttime1st shift (occasional nights and weekends) 20 hours a week.

What were looking for:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have personal experience with childrens mental health
  • Must become certified as a Certified Parent Peer Specialist (DMH training)
  • Must understand and endorse a recoveryoriented approach to providing services.

What youll be doing:

  • Must be a parent or caregiver who has cared for a child who has experienced psychosis on a daytoday basis
  • Have a strong sense of compassion understanding empathy and life experience in order to support families and their children
  • Be selfmotivated have a strong sense of working boundaries with selfdisclosure and family working relationships
  • Have strong communication skills and be a good listener
  • Provide ongoing emotional support motivation and encouragement to help families identify their strengths and needs
  • Have the ability to work with diverse families
  • Meet with families by telephone and facetoface meetings in the familys home or an agreed upon location
  • Have experience with negotiation and dealing with conflict
  • Serve as an active member of the clients treatment team including participation in team meetings and treatment planning meetings
  • Provide psychoeducation with a focus on illness management and family support
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records on all assigned cases and use proper documentation to assist the client and family in the evaluating process
  • Part time 20 hours 1st shift
