Job Description
Summary
The Department of Community and Human Services values diverse perspectives and life experiences. This position will assist in supervising the Behavioral Health Outreach Programs which includes the City Hall Park Neighborhood Outreach King County Metro Terminal Support and the Sound Transit Downtown LightRail outreach teams. These teams are responsible for responding to behavioral health crises that occur in the City Hall Park Neighborhood of downtown Seattle bus transit centers (Burien Transit Center and Aurora Village Transit Centers) and the downtown light rail stations. The teams provide assistance and/or intervention to persons who are experiencing crisis homelessness and/or behavioral health issues within the designated outreach areas. Interventions include community engagement outreach deescalation screening by visual inspection and brief conversation to determine the need for services and referrals for service.

This is a Special Duty Assignment (SDA) or TermLimited Temporary (TLT) position anticipated to end December 31 2025 but subject to change dependent on operational need.

WORK SCHEDULE/CONDITIONS:
Work Schedule: This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime. Typical hours areMondayFriday 1:00pm to 9:00pm with a rotation of afterhour on call coverage.This position is not represented by a union.Job Duties
- Work with the Program Manager to develop and implement policies and procedures to operationalize the Behavioral Health Outreach Teams.
- Interview hire train and support staff.
- Maintain a staff schedule and determine work assignments.
- Oversee the daytoday operations of the Behavioral Health Outreach teams in coordination with a second Program Supervisor to monitor daily work to ensure consistency effectiveness and quality of service.
- Provide direct regular staff supervision; provide ongoing training; evaluate staff performance and provide coaching counseling and corrective action for performance issues as needed.
- Conduct team meetings and maintain other forms of communication with the team.
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with community partners shelters direct service providers and other service or resource organizations.
- Perform the duties of the Behavioral Health Outreach teams as necessary to ensure continuous performance of the team.
- Serve as liaison to and represent the Behavioral Health and Recovery Division within community groups.
- Complete reports as required by the Behavioral Health Outreach Teams.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
- Minimum of two years of work experience working engaging or intervening with persons who are experiencing homelessness and/or behavioral health issues.
- Minimum of two years experience supervising a team in a behavioral health setting.
- Basic knowledge of signs and symptoms of behavioral health conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff clients and outside contacts from a wide variety of ethnic socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
- Skill in deescalating verbal aggression hostile or violent behavior.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective problemsolving skills using conflict resolution techniques which result in positive outcomes and the ability to apply patience and common sense as needed.
- Effective interpersonal skills in working with and promoting positive teamwork.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team that displays sound decision making in the absence of onsite supervisory oversight.
- Current CPR card or attainable within 90 days.
- Current Basic First Aid card or attainable within 90 days.
- Valid Washington State Drivers License or the ability to travel around the County in a timely manner.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check on a post offer/preemployment basis.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Masters degree or further advanced degree in counseling or one of the social sciences from an accredited college or university.
- Mental Health Professional (MHP) as defined in WAC.
