Job Summary
The primary role consists of operations and maintenance of reverse osmosis seawater desalination (SWRO) equipment on the Island of Sint Maarten. This role will also be involved in the daily operations of the SWRO plants. This position includes various types of manual labor maintaining and repairing mechanical hydraulic and electrical equipment as well as recording plant data. The primary responsibilities are consistent with the experience of a plant mechanic.
The position requires some shift work and may include the need to be on duty during nights weekends or holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for the Plant Operator Mechanic
Make daily observations of the equipment and process to ensure proper and safe operation which includes but is not limited to looking for leaking pipes and equipment unsafe conditions nonstandard data unusual vibrations sounds smells or operating temperatures
Complete daily maintenance and repair logs
Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs)
Assist in developing standard maintenance protocol
Perform preventable maintenance on mechanical hydraulic and electrical systems according to plant SOPs
Perform corrective maintenance on mechanical hydraulic and electrical systems
Troubleshoot faulty mechanical hydraulic and electrical systems
Install new equipment as needed or determined by management
Support upgrades of existing equipment as determined by management
Report any improperly working equipment or unsafe situations as described above to the supervisor or other designated personnel as appropriate
Replace consumable products such as filter elements and chemicals
Complete Company required training courses in environmental health and safety and comply with safe working practices
Turn off and Lock Out/Tag Out equipment when maintaining/repairing equipment
Participate in work/evaluation meetings in a positive manner
Work on various projects to keep the plant neat clean and safe this includes but not limited to removing corrosion brushing sweeping sanding painting tightening and other types of manual and semiskilled labor
Become educated through on the job training on the process and equipment in order to aid in the installation preventative maintenance rebuilding repairing or replacement of system components
Responsible for tracking inventory and recording used materials inform supervisor of needed replacement materials in order to ensure that adequate spare parts consumables lubricants etc. are available as needed
Have the ability to correctly operate equipment machinery hand and power tools
Maintain and secure work tools inform supervisor of needed replacement tools
Communicate with supervisor(s) and operators from the various shifts
Be positive pleasant to coworkers and customer service oriented to the extent that there is normal contact with the customer report any customer feedback positive or negative
Must engage in any other duty provided it is safe and within capability
Backup operations of SWRO systems:
use daily checklists to accurately record plant data flows pressures and other measurements of the process and equipment. Complete data reporting as required by the company
start stop and operate RO trains and pump stations as requested by demand in an efficient manner meeting quantity and quality specifications set by prevailing Water Service Agreement(s).
Backup warehouse operations as needed
Assist with onthejob training to new employees
Qualification/Requirements:
Must be able to engage in continuing education and training on all aspects of the job including but not limited to EHS electrical mechanical and chemical related topics.
Must be healthy and of strong mind and body in order to engage in physical work which will include lifting
Must be neat and clean and have good personal hygiene and dress as required for working at the facilities
Must be willing and able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment for the job at hand supplied by the company
Must not have a criminal background
Must have transportation to be able to come to work at various times and locations as needed
Must be willing and able to use hand and power tools
Must be prompt punctual and not suffer from absenteeism this is especially important given the critical nature of the requirement of our company
Must have and maintain the necessary qualifications required to obtain and maintain a GEBE security pass as well as possess the appropriate government identification
Must not use obscene or vulgar language or engage in unprofessional behavior
Must not be a substance abuser or bring any illegal substance firearm or alcohol onto the work site
Should be willing to travel between Caribbean Islands as needed to support operations and installations
Education/Experience:
Able to effectively communicate in English both written and oral
Must be a graduate of primary education MTS level and have a technical education with experience in reverse osmosis maintenance and operations must have some experience with SCADA systems and have good computer skills (MS Office)
Must possess 35 years experience working with mechanical and electrical equipment
Must have the ability to oversee others train new operators required to advise management and work according to Company and customers procedures and guidelines
Advanced skills required in one or more of the following areas: electrical mechanical hydraulic & pneumatic systems plumbing and piping systems
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers
