The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for a Fish and Game Program Technician located in Douglas!

What you will be doing:
The Alaska Department of Fish & Game Division of Commercial Fisheries is looking for a fulltime yearround Program Technician to be the face of the division behind the front counter at the Southeast Regional Office in Douglas. This position will primarily interact with commercial subsistence and personal use fishery participants in the Juneau area to distribute and collect information in support of local and regional fisheries management. The mission of the Division of Commercial Fisheries is to manage subsistence commercial and personal use fisheries in the interest of the economy and general wellbeing of the citizens of the state consistent with the sustained yield principle and subject to allocations through public regulatory processes. As the primary point of contact for the division at the regional office this position is substantially involved in initiating and maintaining positive connections with the public to facilitate sustainable management of fisheries.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is in the Douglas Island Building just across Gastineau Channel from downtown Juneau. Primary duties include answering the phone and overseeing the front counter for the Division of Commercial Fisheries distributing information permits tags and paperwork to the public and helping to keep area management and research programs running smoothly. Opportunities may be available to participate in a wide range of field work projects. This position is also responsible for receiving entering and batching IFQ fish tickets for the Southeast Region.

  • Excellent verbal interpersonal and written communication skills including the ability to comprehend complex regulations or policies and procedures and communicate them to the public.
  • Experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully work with multiple priorities find creative solutions to problems and maintain a very high degree of accuracy on detailoriented tasks.
  • Experience using Microsoft Products such as Word and Excel also publications software including Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience processing applications from paper into electronic systems including examining for errors validating information through third party systems working with the applicant and ADF&G staff to correct errors and communicating data issues to program analysts.

Special Note:

  • A valid drivers license is required.

  • First Aid and CPR training Firearms and Wildlife Safety training Notary Public certificate State of Alaska training will be provided by the department at no cost to the employee.

  • This is an intown position in Douglas/Juneau. Room board and relocation are not provided.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of office clerical experience or technical experience related to fish wildlife or habitat resources;
OR
One year of experience providing advanced clerical services based on established procedures precedents and policies in administrative informative and/or programmatic functions. This experience includes work such as an Office Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:
Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience 3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).

A misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is an offense that is 1 a misdemeanor under Federal or state law; and 2 has as an element the use or attempted use of physical force or the threatened use of a deadly weapon committed by a current or former spouse parent or guardian of the victim by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse parent or guardian or by a person similarly situated to a spouse parent or guardian of the victim.


If you have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence do NOT apply for this position.
