DescriptionThe Summer Employment Opportunity Program (SEOP) provides temporary summer employment opportunities to children stepchildren and spouses of Mayo Clinic employees enrolled in a college degree granting program of study and is intended to help supervisors accommodate employee vacation requests when seasonal work volumes are high.
As a Laboratory Processing Assistant (LPA) you will be an integral part of the laboratory team providing support in patient testing. You will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Performing preanalytic specimen processing
- Operating a variety of laboratory and office equipment
- Entering information and test orders into the laboratory computer system and responding a high volume of phone calls seeking laboratory testing information
- Ensuring correct patient identification on specimens and documentation and resolution of preanalytic specimenrelated issues
- Performing complex reagent preparation
- Managing work unit supply inventory
- Operating automated systems
- Actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds experiences and perspectives

QualificationsTo be considered for this SEOP opportunity you must meet the below qualifications.
- Associate degree. In lieu of an associate degree you may qualify if you have a high school diploma/GED and 2 years of work experience including clinical laboratory and/or other relevant experience.
- Must be a child stepchild or spouse of a current Mayo Clinic employee.
- Must be currently enrolled in a degree granting program.
- Must be returning to college in the fall.
- Must be able to work a minimum of 10 weeks.
- Must be 18 years of age or older by the start of the program.
Additional Qualifications
- SEOP employees should not expect vacation/daysoff to be approved during their commitment.
- Associate degree in a health or science field preferred.
- Previous experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding telephone operations and other office equipment desired.
- Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling. Must be organized able to prioritize and work in a fastpaced environment.
- Must possess good human relations skills and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments offshifts holiday and weekend work assignments.
- Requires the ability to be attentive to details and to adhere to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals reagents and infectious agents.
