Job Description

Position Summary
The Communications Specialist in UNC Global Affairs supports the Communications Manager in enhancing the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hills global profile and mission. As the Communications Manager develops UNC Global Affairs communication strategy in collaboration with department leadership the Communications Specialist works with them to implement and assess it. The Communications Specialist contributes directly to the Universitys public mission of serving the state of North Carolina through teaching research and service. The Communications Specialist helps UNC Chapel Hill fulfill its commitment to delivering the Global Guarantee Carolinas promise that a global education is available to every student. Honoring this commitment involves communicating to students about global education opportunities that help them develop valuable skills that are necessary to succeed in North Carolinas increasingly interconnected and competitive workforce. UNC Global Affairs delivers opportunities that advance the Global Guarantee and the Communications Specialist ensures students at the University know about and take advantage of these opportunities so that they can become the next generation of leaders and problemsolvers. The Communications Specialist supports the Communications Manager in communicating to faculty and staff about opportunities for funding and collaboration offered by UNC Global Affairs so they can pursue innovative research in keeping with Carolinas mission of leading change to improve society and to help solve the worlds greatest problems and so they can teach students in alignment with the Universitys mission to invest our knowledge and resources to enhance access to learning and to foster the success and prosperity of each rising generation. UNC Global Affairs uses its website monthly newsletter social media platforms and other effective communication strategies to communicate with students faculty and staff as well as alumni donors community members and more about funding opportunities; critical programming; important deadlines; visiting speakers and dignitaries; potential research collaboration; and more. As the Communications Manager supports department leadership in developing strategic communication to achieve the Universitys mission the Communications Specialist supports the Communications Manager in developing publishing and evaluating those communications. Specifically the Communications Specialist manages the UNC Global Affairs content calendar which includes news stories newsletters social media content executive communication event promotion and more. This also includes developing efficient work flows and approval processes for all communications. The Communications Specialist works with the Communications Manager Student Communication Assistants and others to maintain websites and social media accounts and to ensure all communications are in alignment with the Universitys vision mission and policies. The Communications Specialist works closely with UNC Global Affairs staff and with units located in the FedEx Global Education Center and across campus including University Communications to monitor develop publish and amplify internal and external communications. The Communications Specialist helps to coordinate events and exhibitions sponsored by UNC Global Affairs.

Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Familiarity with a variety of technologies platforms web development social media and Microsoft Office suite. Experience with photography videography and video editing.

Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Education professional experience or demonstrated interest in global affairs.

Work Schedule
Monday Friday 8am 5pm
