Application Modernization Engineer

Plateau GRP is seeking an experienced Application Modernization Engineer to serve in a senior role on software modernization and cloud transformation initiatives using the Microsoft Azure platform. In this role you will spearhead the transformation to newer technology stack ensuring business continuity while delivering improved performance scalability and maintainability. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience with both legacy ASP systems and modern web development practices with a proven track record of successfully migrating enterprise web applications. This individual should combine hands on development experience with technical leadership and the ability to guide development teams through the modernization journey while maintaining application functionality and introducing cloudnative capabilities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Lead the technical assessment of legacy ASP applications to identify modernization opportunities and challenges
• Develop and document a comprehensive migration strategy with phased approach and timeline
• Refactor monolithic applications into modular maintainable components using modern architectural patterns
• Implement cloudnative features and services while ensuring backward compatibility with existing systems
• Conduct code reviews to maintain quality standards and enforce best practices during the modernization process
• Identify and resolve technical debt while balancing immediate business needs with longterm sustainability
• Participate in sprint planning and provide accurate time estimates for modernization tasks
• Regularly communicate progress challenges and technical decisions to project stakeholders and management
• Optimize application performance and scalability during the migration process
• Research and evaluate new technologies that could benefit the modernization effort

Qualifications:

• 8 years of experience in both ASP legacy applications and modern web development frameworks.
• Demonstrated success in converting at least one largescale ASP application to a modern stack (e.g. .NET Core ASP Core).
• Strong understanding of modern web architecture principles design patterns and best practices.
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in both legacy technologies (ASP WebForms ASP MVC) and modern frameworks (ASP Core Angular React or Vue.js).
• Skilled in both SQL Server database management and ORM frameworks like Entity Framework Core.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for .NET applications.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure AWS or GCP) and cloudnative application development.
• Strong understanding of application security principles and implementing secure coding practices.
• Ability to refactor and modernize code while maintaining business functionality.
• Proven ability to document technical debt create migration strategies and execute incremental modernization plans.

Preferred Qualification:

• Prior experience working in DoD environments
