Technician I: $25.53 $34.47 Hourly
Technician II: $28.13 $37.98 Hourly
Technician III: $30.96 $41.83 Hourly
Anticipated Hiring Ranges:
Technician I: $25.53 $30.00 Hourly
Technician II: $28.13 $33.05 Hourly
Technician III: $30.96 $36.39 Hourly
*This position is a fulltime termlimited position funded through December 2027 with the possibility of becoming permanent if additional funding is approved at a later date. This position is benefit eligible. . Please view our benefits guidehere.

Job Summary:
The Engineering Technician will assist with the implementation of our lead investigation and replacement programs. Activities may include but are not limited to field investigation preparation of investigations and replacement plans data management GIS mapping and management and other administrative tasks. This position requires a selfmotivated person with sound judgment problem solving skills and data management abilities who can work in collaboration with the project team contractors and the public.The incumbent in this position will provide technically skilled engineering work including planning designing reviewing and project construction management/engineering and budget monitoring of infrastructure construction and/or reconstruction programs water service line investigation and replacement programs for the Citys Water & Sewer Department.
Experience Knowledge and Skills:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
All Levels:
- Current and valid drivers license
- General understanding of civil engineering utilities infrastructure and system rehabilitation
- One 1 or more years of experience working with GIS AutoCAD CityWorks InfoWater and similar software
- Two 2 years of experience using Microsoft Excel for data or project management. Proficiency in functions like FILTERS and VLOOKUP is necessary.
- One 1 year of experience with ESRI ArcGIS maps and dashboards with the ability to create maps extract attribute data and generate reports.
Level I
- Associates degree (twoyear degree) in civil engineering computer aided drafting construction or water technology surveyinggeospatial mapping systems or a related field or certification program of comparable length
OR
- Two 2 years of experience working as an Engineering Technician or in a related field
Level II
- Associates degree (twoyear degree) in civil engineering computer aided drafting construction or water technology surveyinggeospatial mapping systems or a related field plus three 3 years of experience as an Engineering Technician
OR
- Five 5 years of experience as an Engineering Technician
Level III:
- Associates degree (twoyear degree) in civil engineering computer aided drafting construction or water technology surveying geospatial mapping systems or a related field plus seven 7 years of experience as an Engineering Technician
OR
- Nine 9 years of experience as an Engineering Technician
- At this level knowledge has been supplemented by substantial work experience or enhanced by additional schooling in a specialized field in order to meet job requirements
- A combination of related education experience certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered by the hiring authority
PREFERRED:
- Bachelors degree (fouryear degree) from an accredited college or university in a related field
- Experience with advanced Excel features.
- At least six 6 months of experience with Surveying and GPS experience
- At least six 6 months of experience with modelling software such as InfoWater and InfoSWMM.
- At least six 6 months of experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D for drafting and design work.

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):
- Creates and maintains lists of properties for inspection utility potholing and service line replacement based on specific attributes and geospatial position.
- Reviews GIS mapping of utilities at project locations troubleshoots inconsistent data and liaises with Asset Management Team as necessary.
- Collects and maintains contractors utility pot holing and water service replacement records and update progress spreadsheets.
- Reviews and manipulates data generates reports for communication and billing purposes.
- Provides field support as needed working in collaboration with the Lead Specialist and contractors.
- Undertakes project administration tasks facilitates communication with other City Departments contractors and the public.
- Engages in quality assurance and quality control. Upholds and assists in developing standard operating procedures.
- Responds to public inquiries regarding potholing and replacement programs.
- Collects water samples to assist project team.
- Participates in construction and team meetings.
- Works under the guidance of the Lead Inventory and Replacement Project Manager.
- Assists other engineering staff as necessary.
- Performs engineering calculations field investigations read and follow designs of construction projects prepares bids on construction projects
- Reviews development designs and assists in the design of water and sewer infrastructure projects
- Additional duties include preparing charts graphs and other visual aids for presentations
- Performs evaluations using sound engineering methods related to the conditions of the Citys infrastructure
- Manages contractor performance ensuring contracts comply with proper City standards and specifications
- Communicates various information relating to infrastructure project coordination compliance training site reviews plans permits investigations complaints or inspections.
- May oversee field contractors assisting with material identification and providing QA/QC of contractors work.
- May determine QA/QC of data supplied by contractors follows up with inconsistencies and reconciliation.
- Solves problems and makes decisions: Work is defined by policies principles and departmental objectives.
- Makes decisions in determining the process to accomplish the work. Limits are set by professional standards available resources and program objectives established by a higher management level.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Spends extended periods at a fixed workstation
- Site visits to residential and commercial properties for site investigations
- Combination of officebased responsibilities and outdoor site investigations with occasional expires to environmental and adverse weather conditions
- May have assignments at water and wastewater treatment facilities pump stations pipelines etc. including potable nonpotable and wastewater infrastructure
- Position requires applicant to be ambulatory
- Close visual acuity required for tasks such as: data analysis; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading of printed materials. Visual acuity includes close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Occasional physical activities such as bending standing carrying and lifting objects of varying weight
- Mobility enough to inspect field sites sometimes crossing over rough uneven or rocky surfaces
- Physical strength to turn curb stop valves to shut off water to dwelling
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Dexterity to access curb stop and take depth measurements
- Exposure to sample preservatives or other chemicals when performing samples
