You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailReporting to the Director of Experiential Learning and Career Development the Career Advisor for the
Experiential Learning and Career Development Center is responsible for coordinating and supervising career
planning programs for students and providing counseling services on an individual and group basis using
aptitude personality interest and values inventories and computer guidance systems. This position will also
present outreach programming and workshops to students in classroom settings residence halls and student
organizations. The Career Advisor serves as the liaison between career services academic advising new student
programs and faculty advisers at the University.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide students and alumni individual assistance in defining career options developing employment
skills and jobsearch procedures.
Administer assessment instruments and computerized career guidance systems as needed.
Provides administrative and logistical support for projects initiatives and programs within Experiential
Learning & Career Development.
Collaborate with the University Divisions and Offices to teach prospective and new students how to
access advising and counselingrelated programs and services.
Responds to a variety of inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. staff students
public agencies etc. for the purpose of providing information or direction and/or facilitating
communication among parties.
Handles preparations scheduling logistics and other various requirements for travel. Submits
requisitions with direction from manager.
Assists in writing routine reports and correspondence and assists with the development of
project/program materials.
Present outreach programs and workshops to students in classroom settings residence halls and
student organizations.
Develop coordinate and facilitate training and skill development workshops to include resume
preparation jobsearch strategies career information technology including Internet links interview
skills and experiential learning preparation
Coordinate resources in support of programming and independent student accessibility including
Internet links Career Services Management tools email employer directories employment vacancy
bulletins etc..
Assist with the training of paraprofessionals as career development ambassadors.
Collect and analyze data pertinent to counseling teaching and retention of students participating in
targeted career planning programs and services for the annual report.
Take advantage of inservice training and other opportunities for professional development including
attendance at offcampus activities and generally staying current in the field;
Maintain proper communication and supportive relations at all times with all other units of the division
and the college providing assistance in carrying out their respective functions;
Create a friendly and supportive atmosphere for students faculty staff and the public;
Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director of
Experiential Learning and Career Development Associate Vice President Vice President or
President in meeting the needs of the program department division and the college.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited four year institution required; Masters degree in Career
Counseling Human Resources Business or a related field preferred.
2 years experience providing internship program development career counseling vocational counseling
or performing related work preferably in a college and/or university setting (graduate school experience
will be considered).
Ability to effectively counsel/advise college students in areas of career planning and academic
development required
Experience using Career Services Management tools such as Symplicity Handshake or CSO preferred.
Knowledge and experience working with advising and leadership programs and an understanding of
student development theory and student personnel administration required.
Professional group presentation experience.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive interpersonal relations throughout the college and
the community.
Demonstrated competence in computer technologies such as word processing spreadsheets and
presentation programs required.

Physical Demands:
Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day and climb stairs as required. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally)
bending and carrying. Specific vision abilities include the ability to use close vision. The employee is regularly
required to talk and hear and to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
