The Department of Neuroscience and the Harrison Family Translational Research Center in Alzheimers and Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine invites applications for a tenuretrack Assistant Professor faculty position. Researchers in the Department study a variety of neurological diseases and have specific interests in the role of glia and immune processes in disease etiology. The recently launched Harrison Family Translational Research Center in Alzheimers and Neurodegenerative Diseases which draws together researchers from across the University exemplifies the local strengths in neurodegenerative disease and neuroimmunology research. Building on the existing expertise we wish to expand in the area of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimers disease ALS Parkinsons disease Huntingtons disease frontal temporal dementia or other neurodegenerative diseases.
Successful applicants will have earned a PhD MD or MD/PhD completed a minimum of three years of postdoctoral training and demonstrated a track record of successful research with a strong potential of developing innovative research programs that can attract sustained extramural funding. A commitment to and evidence of an explicit commitment to diversity and of advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups are essential. The selected candidate will join a collaborative inclusive and dynamic group of investigators with similar research interests. Prospective faculty members can draw from an outstanding and diverse pool of graduate and MD/PhD students from the interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences (BIMS) program to support their research program. Predoctoral training is also supported by several T32 supported training programs including the BIG training program. The selected candidate will also enjoy access to unique shared research facilities in the Department which include highresolution single and multiphoton confocal microscopy flow cytometry and behavioral equipment.
