Safety Manager

Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for traveling to worksites to investigate complaints perform routine audits and identify potential risks while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This role spans diverse environments including warehouses production facilities retail stores and office buildings with a focus on addressing safety concerns specific to each business and industry. The Safety Manager collaborates with stakeholders to develop and implement effective risk reduction strategies based on audit findings. Additionally they play a critical role in fostering a culture of safety by promoting awareness leading employee training sessions and distributing materials on safety protocols and emergency response plans.

Starting Salary Range: $62000$75000 commensurate with experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Continually evaluate the organizations procedures facilities and equipment to identify unsafe conditions requiring improvement
  • Assist in the development of company policies training and procedures related to safety & compliance
  • Stay abreast of safety & compliance with rules and regulations through research and education and recommend updates to policies procedures and/or training
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to prepare and present reports summarizing accidents injuries and near misses in the monthly Safety Committee meetings
  • Share information suggestions and observations with Senior Leadership to create consistency in safety standards throughout the organization
  • Acts as a safety resource by providing effective solutions answers and inputs as necessary to address concerns and or obstacles to safe work
  • Organize and conduct OSHA training on safety and compliance topics
  • Ensure the safety manual is current and applicable through annual verification
  • Ensure that each buildings Do Not Panic plan is kept up to date and locations are performing quarterly drills
  • Communicate preventative maintenance problems and potential issues to the Facilities Manager to provide a safe and clean working environment that complies with all state and local building and fire codes while implementing safety policies through training reporting safety hazards and correcting unsafe employee practices
  • Supporting Operational Leaders and Management Teams through permitting inspections safe work plan meetings hazard identification and risk assessment (personal and process safety) problemsolving incident investigation and analysis facilitation
  • Assesses safety and health program performance.
  • Conduct random Safety walkthru inspections of buildings within the organization and job sites ensuring compliance with both best practices and safety requirements
  • Managing documentation and reporting of safetyrelated records and materials
  • Offers support and materials for monthly safety meetings and shares Lessons Learned or other observations with organization Senior Leadership and Management
  • Reports safety violations to appropriate authorities to ensure that issues are addressed promptly
  • Lead and support safety initiatives within the organization
  • Safety orientation and training of new employees on equipment
  • Attend management meetings as scheduled by the Senior Director of Retail Operations/Associate Director of Retail Operations
  • Maintains Google calendar for proper time management proficiencies
  • Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned
  • Build authentic relationships across lines of difference such as race ethnicity sexual orientation class ability gender identity citizenship status or other identities.
  • Play an integral role in fostering a culture of equity and inclusion within the organization.
  • Adhere to the Safeguarding Policy by ensuring timely completion of mandatory training staying updated on relevant training modules and undergoing the necessary background checks to maintain compliance.
Candidate must reside within 35 miles of Madison WI for location safety protocol.
Store/location assignments are subject to change to meet operational needs and aid with staff training and development.

Daily assignments will rotate based on staffing and operational needs. An individual in this position must successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. Fulltime 40 hours per week. Shifts will correspond with the Monday through Friday production schedule 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with occasional weekend shifts.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a safety role
  • Indepth knowledge of OSHA guidelines and practices
  • Experience in reporting and developing policies
  • Experience in implementing OSHA training programs
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures ranges of ability ethnicities and races.
  • Demonstrate the implementation of best practices as required by the SVdP Safeguarding policy when interacting with children and vulnerable adults.
  • For the safety of the clients SVdP serves and as per the Safeguarding Policy this position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA

Physical and Mental Requirements
An individual must meet the mental and physical requirements described here to perform the essential functions of this position successfully. While performing the duties of this job:
  • Understanding of OSHA guidelines and other state and local safety regulations
  • Familiarity with the tools machines and equipment used in both retail and production environments
  • Demonstrate the implementation of best practices as required by the SVdP Safeguarding policy when interacting with children and vulnerable adults
  • A minimum of two years of safety experience and implementation of programs and practices
  • This position requires effectively communicating various information to employees customers and clients. Good listening and verbal and written skills are required.
  • This position requires the ability to prioritize and execute responsibilities independently
  • This position requires the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary for sound decisionmaking and problemsolving with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the Windows operating system Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications is required. Typing a minimum of 55 words per minute is needed.
  • This employee must be able to work with a culturally and socially diverse population as represented by the Society of St. Vincent de Pauls employees customers and clients.
  • Employees must frequently stand walk talk and hear and use their hands to handle or touch products tools or controls.
  • Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance and occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs. with assistance from equipment or another person.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee must be able to follow instructions and work autonomously on assigned job duties.
  • Employee must be able to work assigned shifts consistently and live within 35 miles of Madison Wisconsin.
  • Must be licensed and able to drive a motor vehicle.
The working environment of the Thrift Stores Service Center Business offices and Processing Center may contain dust debris or allergens commonly associated with preowned clothing furniture and household goods. Certain areas of the store donation dock are only partially climatecontrolled.
